Does anyone else have these pipes in their bathroom? We just got this Argosy 24 and these black pipes take up a ton of space. They are not sealed together, but we have no history on what has been done or not to this project. Any ideas what this is for and if we can tear it out? Pic attached

Plumbing vents. Probably meant to be inside or next to a closet wall. Your waste tanks need to be vented or you will not like the smell.

That's what size the standards say they are supposed to be.

These lines perform multiple functions. They do keep odors away from the interior, but the also allow air to escape the tanks when draining water into the tanks from sinks/shower/toilet. When you drain your tanks they also allow air into the tanks so a vacuum isn't created slowing down the draining. Smaller lines can compromise these functions. Your choice.

We had a 75 TradeWind and the plumbing looked very much like what you have. All of the pipes were out of sight inside a closet area in the bathroom.

I’m replacing rear bath floor in 28’. My vent pipes look very similar to exactly like yours. I cut off for the floor rot and will slice back together

My guess...all that was hidden. The open pipe is the sink drain. The line up the rt side was where the wall fastened to hide all the pipes.

You can reroute them just use 45 elbows not 90 degrees
Personally I wouldn't have a problem going one pipe size smaller IF they are 1 1/2 inch but I don't think you gain much room by doing that.

You need the venting, but you certainly can re route, with an assortment of fittings, to hug the wall and not waist so much valuable space. Notice the oversized hole in the floor, typical airstream, quality, think of the poor little mice, needing easy access to the inside

You can also use P-trap vents for under the sink: Trap Vent

HOWEVER... if your tank ever fills up all the way, it could overflow through this thing! I'm thinking about 3D printing myself a trap that has a tube sticking up higher than the sink drain, which would solve the problem.

Plumber here, That's your gray and black tank vents and lavatory p-trap and vent. Plumbing code said that vents can only be tied together above the flood rim of the highest fixture (top of sink in this instance).

All are good responses. This looks like my rear bath 76 Argosy. There was a closet then a vanity/sink positioned at rear of trailer where drain pipe and water lines are located. Lateral pipes are under vanity. Wall brackets are on back wall where side wall for closet was located and upright pipes are just inside wall of closet.

Returning to the pipe sizes, the plumbing code is based on years of best practices, gleaned from the school of hard knocks. As others alluded, smaller vents tend to back up with water, slowing drains, forming pressure vacuums and siphons that empty your p traps, back up into other fixtures, and generally increase all the annoying gurgling sounds of plumbing being drained. I don't advise using smaller vents.

Yep, Argosy rear bath drain and vent pipes... What to do with them and everything else in that busy rear corner of the trailer. Black tank and toilet, power inlet and charger/converter/fuse box, bath plumbing etc. We didn't reuse anything in the picture except the main vent stack (make sure to reseal it at the roof). Start with a thorough floor inspection, I'd be surprised if there wasn't some issue under/behind the black tank. Then about that 12 gallon gray tank under the floor, maybe upgrade that? We removed the black tank/toilet and use a PortaPotti Curve. Installed a 35 gallon gray tank. re-plumbed the shower, moved the vanity to the streetside wall and re-plumbed it with proper but more streamlined drain and vent runs. After 4 years we're very happy with it. Also ran a new 30 amp inlet and replaced the converter/charger and fuse box and added solar all in that back corner.
Just a couple thoughts, skies the limit...
