what caused this ? fix solution?

I have a 93 excella with rear bedroom. Close to the fantastic fan there is this area that I would guess was a water leak at some time. Is this correct? I have been reading articles on removing the vinyl and have watched a couple videos on youtube.com on how folks are going about the interior vinyl removal process. This is a small area and would hate to remove the entire ceiling to fix this spot. It is hard feeling, almost like rocks or crystalized something.... Thanks, Jeff

There is no turning back. The glue has separated from the vinyl. I've been through this accidentally, while stripping bad paint off my vinyl. You will probably end up having to strip the vinyl off the aluminum.

thanks for the reply. I was hoping this wasn't the problem but didn't want a leak as well.

from reading other topics specifically about vinyl removal, it seems Jasco is the go to product??? Is there any better solutions out there?

Maybe carefully cut the material, scrape away the lumps, and superglue? Won't be perfect, but if you can't really see it, maybe it won't be so bad? Or maybe not so bad until you get the time to re-do everything?

Don't get distracted from locating and Rx the cause of it. Nobody would want a repeat .
Good luck.

Looks like a leak that has corroded the aluminium. Possibly a bare copper wire?

That is really unusual the way the vinyl is separating! Please post photos of what's under the area when you open it up. I would very carefully cut the bubbled area open with a razor blade taking care not to cut into the aluminum. Sometimes sheet metal workers cut aluminum by just scoring it with a blade and bending it, it will snap apart at the score line. Never slice into aluminum with a sharp blade unless you want a crack there! I would cut away the bubbled vinyl and put a decorative thing over it like a Pink Floyd poster rather than strip the whole panel. It would be good to know what caused this and maybe fix that.
