Thumbs up The Rats ate it.

I am looking at a 1961 28 foot Airstream that has been sitting out in the country in the same spot for over 25 years. I know nothing about them but I understand they are very nice and dependable. Problem is, to make a long story short, it was broke into and a window (front left curved window) and the door were left open for quite some time. Exterior is in OK shape but the interior is completely ruined. What the rats did not eat or chew up, they left their droppings on. It will take a complete redo in the interior including several sections of new flooring. I can probably get the appliances cleaned up and the cabinets refinished. Everything else needs to be taken out and burned. Can anyone help me get some idea of what this unit is worth as it sits.
Thanks

hi and welcome,
i can only say to lowball as much as you can. vintage units are wonderful, but require a commitment...if time is on your side, go for it as you might find it very rewarding, otherwise take a pass. im sure others will chime in.

A trailer in that condition would not be worth a whole lot in my book - it will time a lot of time and effort to make it useable. So I would think the decision is do I have more time or money - if you have more time, buy it for next to nothing and work on it as you can. If you have a bit more money, wait and find a better unit that does not need so much. I think your ahead of the game (time and money) and spend a little for a better unit and go from there.

Look long and hard at the frame, axles, anything steel. Sitting unused for that long with a broken window and rat infested I wouldn't count on much other than the shell being useable. Big job to start from scratch.
