Specialists in the U.K.

Hi

I’m based in the U.K. and I’ve just bought a 1954 Safari. I’d like to get some pointers to Suppliers in the U.K. that can help with the internal renovation.

Would love to hear from anybody nearby.

Cheers
Niall

Suppliers or restorers?

Hi Martin

Both really. I’d like to plan the interior based on what’s available and then have a cabinet maker put it together.

Cheers
Niall

Hi Niall

Basically there are no vintage parts suppliers in the UK, but all parts used in modern Airstreams are supplied from international suppliers and we actually have much better availability of those parts than the US, plus you can fit 240v versions.

There are several high end restorers (like American Retro Caravans, https://www.arcairstreams.co.uk/?fbc...ZzvOOT2n2gmeNc, and Retro Vintage) but those folks don't supply parts, only do rebuilds.

Just keep in mind, every Kg of weight you add is another Kg you will have to drag around and older trailers have cabinetry that appears 'flimsy' to keep the weight down - its why modern units are made with lightweight not domestic ply/timber (take a look at Morland's for ply, https://www.morlanduk.com/lightweight-furniture-ply).

- Martin

Shipping and duty is expensive but also keep in mind the US based suppliers all ship to UK (for example VTS, https://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/ and Out-of-Doors Mart, https://odmrv.com/catalog/).

Will do. I get a lot of my Mustang parts from the US and it’s become quite expensive on the duty side. Mind you, it’s the same with Europe now.

I did try to contact ARC but they seem very busy and I’ve not managed to speak to anyone yet.

I’ve got a little while yet as the chassis and axle are being modified/ replaced a the moment.

Maybe worth chatting to Dan at Retro Vintage (https://www.facebook.com/Retro-Vintage-106645304045176), although they specialize in motorhomes the interior parts/layouts are very similar.
