End caps

Doing a full restoration on a '70 Ambassador. My first question to the members is:

Are the fiberglass end caps needed for shell structure support? I can live with the front cap, but the rear (bathroom) must go...

The end caps are not structural.

There are several threads here where members replaced them with homemade end caps made of aluminum and wood panels.
