One reason for repairs being costly and involving long waiting times, is that there are dozens of different manufacturers, and they keep changing the specs on their products for competitive reasons. The salesman at the RV yard is pushing you to get all the bells and whistles, but in many cases the buyer has no idea how expensive these fancy rigs will be to repair. The rigs that he has available for immediate sale, are of course fully loaded.
There's also the fact that RV's are often assembled without any regard for the laborious problem of remedying things that go wrong. Ours, for instance, was totally plumbed and wired in the factory before the exterior walls were glued in place. That simplifies their labour, but makes it almost impossible to track the wires or fix the pipes. Added to the misery, was the fact that the blueprints for that 10-year-old model are no longer available.
Buyer beware: depreciation rates are startling! But it's nevertheless a super way of traveling. Do it while you can!
