covering textured walls

Does any one have experience with covering textured walls with plaster of paris or anything else? I have a 68 overlander I'm currently restoring and the interior walls have texture that I am not fond of at all, also a lot of holes. I would like to cover the textured surface with a thin layer of something, fill in the holes then paint over it hoping for a smooth finish.
Any suggestions? The walls appear to be a vinyl material, a bit shiny, I'm not sure if plaster of paris will stick to it. Thanks in advance.

P of P will not withstand the expansion and contraction of the inner skin let alone travel down the road.

Hi,
The plaster of paris will not work. It sets up hard and will break when the aluminum walls expand and contract.

Why not patch the wholes and paint the walls. Search the forum for interior paint. Should be lots of good info.

A more workable solution might be just to strip the vinyl off, then paint the (now smooth) bare aluminum. Maybe Bondo the holes if necessary.

I have not stripped off the vinyl although others have. Sounds like a lot of work. Others have painted it using a strong cleaner to remove the oily stuff on the surface and a primer like Kilz. How about Zolotone or another speckled paint. It would look great in your AS. It can be sprayed but can also be rolled. Both oil and water based versions are available.

Use Mr Clean sponges to clean the walls then wipe down with water on a rag. This will leave the walls clean and non sticky.

Trying to remove the vinyl from the aluminum is an exercise in frustration . It is bonded during production of the aluminum sheet.

As for the holes get colored rivets from http://www.VintageTrailerSupply.com
