I'm getting ready to take down the interior skins to re-insulate, and I'm wondering about this trim piece that I never gave much thought to...its about an inch wide, and covers the edge of the main entry door. There are no visible fasteners. I suspect (but am not certain) that this needs to come off in order to remove the skins. Its possible that they're just tucked under, and will just slide out when the rest of the pop rivets are removed, but experience tells me that there are probably some hidden rivets under there holding the edges of the skin.
It looks like you might be able to gently pry it up, but being aluminum, its soft and probably very easy to bend/tweak irreparably. Any thoughts on removing it without breaking it?
That piece attaches via rivets inserted at a 45 degree angle inside the door frame. Open the door and look at the inside corner of the frame, and you'll see the rivet heads. It's like 6-8 pop rovets around the perimeter.
That was it! can't believe I didn't see those rivets.
Still had to pry some...gently. There are also a bunch of sping-clip-thingies in the groove that it goes into; couple of them broke, but most let go ok. should be ok to put it back in place.
and yes, there were a few hidden pop-rivets in the skin underneath this trim, as I expected.
