1955 Bathroom Door?

We are nearing the last renovation leg of our 55 FC. We have looked through the Archives trying to get a picture of the bathroom area. Most appear to show a curtain in lieu of a door. The head configuration indicates to me a pocket style door. Does anyone know what was originally there? Also, if it is a pocket door, does anyone have a picture so I can replicate? Many thanks.

If you desire a pocket door, the one on our 1955 Commodore Vanderbilt has a pocket door that has two side doors that slide together. I have been told that it is the only model that had an original sliding pocket door, both for the bathroom and also for the bedroom area. I will be getting it out of storage on Friday should you wish to private message me and provide your email address. Over the weekend, I will capture a few pics and send them to you.

On the otherhand, our 1954 Safari had a wood door that was hinged on one side.

Have you examined many detailed pics of a 1955 FC? That is the direction that I would go. Are there any 1955 FC Owners out there who could provide some original configeration pics?

We have searched the archives and found one vague picture of a 1954 FC bath door. It was a slider. At this point I can go with about anything. I just want it to look and function as original. Thanks

Thanks Chris; ours must have been different. Our model is a rear double bed, rear bath that left no room between the bath and bed for a hinged door. It must have had either a curtain, accordion door or pocket/sliding door. Here is our floor plan and the only photo I could find in the archives showing a sliding door in a '56 Flying Cloud (not '54 as I previously stated). It's a little hard to see.

I think you saw mine after I sold it. It had the transverse rear bed with bath between the bed and kitchen. In the photo the door looks more like a "barn" door than a pocket door. Looks like it rides on an overhead rail. Curious if it sealed well while showering. Perhaps use a shower curtain in addition.

Thanks for your post and especially the link to your restoration blog! I'm headed there next! I'm lookong for a photo of the original 12v ceiling light...I've got the fluorescent circle bulb fixture and bulb. And curtain fixture photos.....and....

Kathy, what ceiling light picture are you looking for? The round was originally 120v but we converted ours to a 12v. Other than the round, which one are you referring to? Also, thanks for the pictures. Your 55 is a twin, ours is a double. The bath configurations were different. But, that type of door would work in a narrow isle. Our 66 has a bifold. Thanks

Ah.... I didn't see yours is a double bed, so my twin-bed bath door certainly won't work. A friend had a 55 FC double bed and it had a curtain for a door, but I didn't get photos of his bathroom area.
