finally had to face facts and realised the entire interior ali needs to come out to replace the windows properly. thought i may be able to squeeze the bucking bar into various places but proved impossible and unreliable. mentally went down the road of thinking i could refix them with olympics but as they are not as strong just thought i would be doing the same job again in a few years. took the plunge over the weekend and removed the main ceiling and on end. windows just flew in, glad i did it now. Still not got to that interior yet but with one more window to do it seems to be getting ever closer. Just for the record a safari 1954 takes exactly 24 feet of rubber window moulding. There is a lot of working in restoring the windows. we have totally stripped them down polished every component and rebuilt. painstaking but the result is good.
Brought some solenoid valves for the old (not working) pump faucets. The idea is to use them like a standard faucet but switched using a 12v switch. Keeps the 50's look but no pumping. One will be connected to the water heater and the other direct to the holding tank.
Brought the material for internal doors and walls. black walnut. should be nice with some units painted for a bit of contrast.
Bearing in mind that over here we have no evil looking wildlife whatsoever i keep finding assorts of nasty looking bugs hidden in weird and wonderfully places. Just glad they're all long dead. busy at work so not finding lots of time at the moment but getting there. Greg

fitted her with and anti sway tow hook and hooked her up for the first time. i took her for ten mile test drive the morning before our vacation. drove 350 miles to lower normandy with out any problems at all she towed perfectly. the last pic is of our first hour of our first vacation in her. totally worth it. recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Now i want another.

Congratulations on getting out camping. Nice looking work, too.
Your awning is interesting. Looks like you have more support than the usual vintage awning. Could you give some details of how it works?
cheers,
steve

awning
awning is really simple. a piece of canvass 12' side by 7' deep rail fixing on one side and three eylets on the other. this is fixed using three adjustable poles with one guide rope on each. there is also the option to extend this as in the pics by adding another piece of canvass with 12' sides but only 3' deep. each side has three eylets on it. the two are linked together by putting the smaller one under the wider one ant using the poles to hold them together . three more poles are then added to the front side. in theory you could just keep adding.
sorry for the long winded answer hope it makes sense

Your safari looks great, you got everything finished very quickly! Its a lot of fun going on that first camping trip! I like the awning too, we haven't gotten that far yet.
