Congratulations!

Awesome! If you want to follow along on our road to restoration of our '56 Safari and all the "possible problems" as well as how we resolved them, check out our "It's a Girll!!" thread.

Post pics of yours when you get a chance ~

L-O-V-E those 50's Safaris!

Thumbs up Responses to my post

OK, OK I get the drift, stupid question when having just bought a 60 year old AS! I do appreciate your warnings however. I just needed a bit of support from you guys for jumping in the deep end. Looks like I am at the right place. Will post pictures very soon. Thanks all.
Cheers

Congrats on your new to you airstream shell on or she'll off is a personal preference but access to the floor and the opportunity to deal with the frame issues if any make the shell off mine. Either way enjoy the adventure and if you are able to work under shelter then all the better. If you have questions ask and yes you will receive many answers from lots of pro's and sometimes they differ widely so do what sounds best or most appropriate for you. Again welcome!

I'm guessin' his trailer is an early year model and you are a late year model, Channing.

Alright bwoodtx how old is your pup? I had Clyde and Penelope which have both passed but wonder animals! Rescues 1 6 month old from a car dealer they wanted 200. The night before but feed her pea soup ( she loved it) and I got her for free!

It is all about managing expectations. Do a search on the forums for all the "full monty" restorations, and you will see what is involved--don't limit yourself to the 50's trailers, either.

Get a DVD of all the back episodes of the Vintage Airstream Podcast (The VAP), and you can listen to a few guys sit around bantering about all of the problems you can expect to find while bringing an aging trailer back to life.

Just don't expect a few superficial repairs, and on the road in a matter of months. I am 2 years into a body-off restoration, and even though I am now putting things back together instead of tearing them apart and repairing them, I still have a long way to go (and this has been my "full time hobby" for the last two years too).

Good luck!
