2018 work on 1949 Airstream Liner (part 1)

I left a few projects in a very unfinished state as I finished out my 2017 work sessions. The joist reinforcements were fabricated but not installed, and the step was only partially reassembled.

First up, I cut and dry fit the plywood flooring. Then I put them away for a bit and installed the joist reinforcements, riveting them into position. I then ran the wires for electric brakes through the new joists. Then I cut foamboard insulation to fit between the joists. They sit on small pillars of foamboard pieces.

Once the insulation was just a hair above flush, it was time for the plywood floor. Most of the plywood floor went in, and the wires for the brakes were run up so they can be connected to the wires from the trailer cable. But before one last piece went in, by the step, the step's riser needed to go in. I installed the riser, screwing it into the more-rearward piece of plywood. Then the last piece of plywood floor went in and was screwed into the riser.

That wrapped up the outstanding projects from 2017 - halfway through 2018.

2018 work on 1949 Airstream Liner (part 2)

There were two other things I completed during 2018. I removed the front end cap and stripped the paint from it. I also installed Reflectix insulation against the inside of the upper outer skins, end caps excepted. This helped keep things a little cooler in the summer sun. That's about it for 2018.

2019 had little trailer activity, but I got a new girlfriend who lived a bit away. Heather was worth a break from the trailer work, and now my fiance. I resumed work on the trailer this year (2020). I had planned to get to work on it sooner than I did, but the COVID insanity slowed things down. I don't know how many times my night's work session ended earlier because I needed something from a hardware store or Walmart or Meijer - and they'd closed ridiculously early.

I'll have posts on 2020 after I get the photos off my phone. When I'm not too busy with work or working on the trailer. Goodnight, everybody.

I would be interested in the serial number of your Liner. I see it has strap door hinges, Air-O-Lite side windows, and a "non-suicide" door that opens right. These details are consistent with a late 1948 or very early 1949 model. I wonder where your serial number falls in that range, likely in the high 1200s or very low 1400s (they skipped over the 1300s). I would like to check it is is in my list of still existing pipe frame Airstreams and if not, add it to the list. Thanks in advance.
