These are unprecedented times. How is one supposed to act? The closing actions by many of the states are probably the responsible actions to take, I must admit the pictures of spring break students and other tourists frolicking on the beaches of FL, TX et al were troubling. I don't know if there is any magic to the 60 days that people speak of. All this said, I believe that 'this too shall pass'. Once we reach that point, I look forward to seeing you on the road. Be well. Stay safe.

Florida State Parks — CLOSED

Florida has closed its state parks, effective today.

The notice provided says nothing about people already camping, but here's the link where further elaboration may appear: https://www.floridastateparks.org

Here is what is said, at the moment:

"At the direction of Governor DeSantis and to successfully uphold CDC guidance to maximize social distancing and avoid gatherings larger than 10 people, DEP will close all Florida State Parks to the public effective Monday, March 23.

"DEP has taken many measures to continue providing resource recreation at our state parks during this time, such as limiting operating hours and reducing visitor capacity at parks with high visitation. Unfortunately, this has not resulted in the reductions needed to best protect public health and safety as Florida continues to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

"We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to prioritize the welfare of our communities and staff. We look forward to welcoming you again to our award winning state parks as soon as possible."

Penn State Parks closed through April 29

Just received a voicemail that Pennsylvania State Parks are now closed through April 29 -- basically a month added to the previous closure announcement. They will be automatically refunding fees made through the ReserveAmerica platform.

No surprise - all indicators pointed to closing of all kinds being extended well into April.

15 States with Stay at Home Orders as of +/- 15:00 3/23/20

15 States with Stay at Home Orders as of +/- 15:00 3/23/20

This Weather Channel Article summarizes them so far, as well as some City/County ones:

https://weather.com/health/coronavir...antines-united

PS - If not on that list/article, LA has closed all parks & trails, & their parking lots, after widespread crowds & not social distancing etc. Beaches may be closed next. First clear & sunny day for a week or so, but really, they can't just spread out.

Also, tonight on the ABC News national program they said known USA cases jumped from 11,000+ on last Thursday 3/19, up to 45,000+ today 3/23 6:30 PT News (could be 3:30 ET when first recorded??).

That's more than triple in 3-4 days! Same growth worldwide.

LA County cases up similarly to 536 & 7 deaths - & our Orange County cases went from 45 this morning, to 65 at noon-ish, to 95 this evening news at 5!

Hold onto your seats folks!

Stay safe, stay home, stay well!

Missouri has just announced that all state parks will be closed for overnight camping beginning Friday March 27th and will remain closed until May. Parks are open for day use but any lodging, camping, food facilities and group programs will be unavailable.

Orange County, Florida, has issued a "shelter in place" order which starts Thursday night, 3/26 at 11pm, and continues for two weeks until 4/28 at 11pm.

I saw no specific mention of RV Parks or camping, even though there are a goodly number of RV parks in Orange County, quite a few of which have a good many long term residents. So, that situation may be a little unclear.

The company that stores our RV when we're not using it did, however, announce that as a "non-essential" business they will be closed during this order. Our assumption is that the closure means we simply can't access our RV, which we will continue to store there, until the order expires. Given the circumstances, that's fine with us.

Here's a link to the executive order in case you want to read it in full: http://www.ocfl.net/Portals/0/Librar...2003-24-20.pdf

Campendium has just released a feature that allows you to locate campgrounds by eliminating those which are closed.

Corps of Engineer parks closed in Iowa

The only parks closed at this time in Iowa are the Army Corps of Engineer campgrounds. Saylorville Resivour just north of DesMoines with hundreds of camp-spots closed about a week back. Closed also to day use. State and private CG’s are still operational at this time.

In addition to all CA State Campgrounds being closed for awhile now, as well as LA, Orange County & most SoCal County campgrounds & many/most of the local parks this past Monday & since, the State & Cities/Counties have also closed many/most/all parking lots at the beaches, parks, trailheads, etc. due to people still overcrowding there.

I advise to check everywhere before you head out for a walk, bike ride, etc. at any CA location, &/or if traveling a route through CA to go home.

The MDs, Nurses & Public Health Officials are all also advising not to take kids (or adults & pets) on the playground equipment because of the high touch surfaces - which is pretty good advice for any of those at the campground where some of you full timers, snow birds, etc. holed up in CA or anywhere else.

Also practice 6 foot social distancing, cover sneezes/coughs, & the other health precautions advisories at anywhere that you go for a walk/exercise - whether in your campground/RV park, other park, & around the neighborhood where you live.

Best!
Tom

We cancelled our reservation at Edisto Beach State Park in SC even though it remains open. Figured it wouldn’t be much fun with all the restaurants and bars closed and reluctant to use the bath house and mingle with others. If I want to stay holed up in the trailer I can do that at home. I do wonder where people are going though as there are many on the road who have to stay somewhere.
