Good question. Vancouver Canada.

We have a population in BC very similar to Washington state. We are both points of entry to North America. Similar climate.

BC has been ramping this up over nine weeks. Washington hasn’t had a matching response. Today’s numbers show a 12 times difference in Covid deaths.

That is flattening the curve.

I see specific states ramping things up quickly now. As one who is in it, my comment is that this is what it is like. YMMV.

Re: "Overall survival rate of those who have had the virus is higher than 99%."

The fatality rate spikes upward sharply for those over 70 and especially 80.

As it does for all other causes.

Flattening the curve does not stop spread, just delays it and prolongs it.

Which would be a bad thing, unless there were a broader purpose behind the strategy. It’s done so that hospitals aren’t overtaxed in a spike of emergencies to the point of not being able to effectively react. The upshot is more lives saved.

Humans haven’t built up broad immunity to this new virus whether through surviving exposure or a vaccine. Flattening the curve buys time and saves lives.

RV'ers can indeed make a reservation, pay online, go to a site, camp and leave without ever encountering another person. I've been doing this for weeks with no issues. It is possible. Please leave the parks and lands open.

Please take a moment to educate your political representatives.

North Carolina State parks closed

In accordance with the Governor's Executive Order 117 and to help limit the spread of COVID-19, all campgrounds and offices at North Carolina State Parks are closed until further notice. Trails and restrooms will remain open during regular day-use park hours.

All programs and events at state parks are cancelled at this time.

Most boat ramps and fishing and climbing accesses will remain open at the discretion of park staff. Please check the individual park pages or call the park prior to your visit to confirm the status of these facilities.

Aspira, the camping reservation system, will be contacting all those who are impacted by the campground closures to issue full refunds. You are also welcome to call 1-877-722-6762 to request your refund, but please note that there may be a wait as their staff works to cancel all reservations.

At this point, the default assumption should be that the parks are ALL closed until proven otherwise.

March 17, 2020 announcement:

Parks Canada closes all visitor services across the country to limit COVID-19 spread

Was in AZ for 10 days but headed home to New Mexico where all parks are closed to campers but open to the public all day. Could not stay over night in remote dispersed areas that happened to be on state park land. Our favorite boondock sites on BLM were full. So now home where we can be closer to our fellow man.

Staying in a COE park in Georgia. We've been advised that we can complete our stay, but that the park is closed to new arrivals through at least the end of May.

Moab is shutting down for visitors. Restaurants and hotels shut down.
In three southern Utah counties (Carbon, Emery, and Grand), all camping on public or private lands is prohibited except for "Essential Visitors and Primary Residents."
More info here.

The overall survival rate from what I heard is about 98%. That one percent is millions of people. The personally fatalistic approach of people are going to get it anyway is selfish. The 98 percent is also exposing the more vulnerable population which begins at age 60, not 70.

Most people who get this won’t need to go to the hospital.

That’s great. Even less will need to if we do what the Dr.s, medical professionals and scientists tell us to.

Rv park closings

I just checked and US Canada Border is closed to non essential traffic.

The United States border with Canada will temporarily close to “non-essential traffic” due to the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.
The U.S.-Canada is the world’s longest border between two countries.
The move came a day after the European Union agreed to close its external borders to non-citizens.
Trudeau on Monday closed Canada’s border to non-citizens, with U.S. citizens exempt from the ban.

Travelers will no longer be permitted to cross the border for recreation and tourism. In both our countries, we’re encouraging people to stay home,” Trudeau said.

“We’re telling our citizens not to visit their neighbors unless they absolutely have to. Well, this colloborative and reciprocal measure is an extension of that prudent approach.”
