Mass State Parks Cancels All Reservations

I was waiting for this to come, but did not expect it to happen like this. So, I had scheduled almost 4 weeks at two different Mass State Parks for our summer vacation running from late June into mid July. Then...
Got an email that Mass is cancelling ALL summer reservations and rescheduling with social distancing. New reservations will start July 1. And by the way if you are a non-resident, you will pay 3X the price!

Are you saying we have a chance....

I am about ready to cancel a fall 2 month trip from FL to the northeast and stick to the southern good ole Dixie. I have tried making reservstions in New York, Pennsylvania and Maine without any success in government campsites and rediculous restrictions in private sites.

I still don't get it. I have never been in a campsite where I had to be within breathing distance of my neighbors unless I wanted to be?

Just an opinion.......Why you shouldn't visit a national park this year...

I have had no problems in Wisconsin. Spent five days in South Dakota. No problem.

I feel the same way. RV camping is a lot safer than flying on a plane or staying at a hotel. I think that most of the officials making these rules have never been camping.

You have to consider that most visitors are not in self contained RV's. That means washrooms & showers are a risk. For those in RV's the sani dump is the only risky spot and that is easily dealt with. However, they are obviously thinking of the lowest common denominator

I agree with lsbrodsky in post #3 and moose tags in post #7.

The only problem I see is the bathrooms. Simply close the bathrooms and announce that as long as you are self contained, you are welcome to stay at the campground.

We had all reservations cancelled in BC too ...it restarted last month and Provincial sites opened June 01 only to residents of BC for reservations ..... no one outside of BC can stay.

Everyone is camping now all the parks are filling super fast!!! RV dealers are apparently really busy! Yesterday they extended the border closing 1 month until July 21 so you cant drive into Canada.

We cancelled our bucket list trip to Balloon Festival next Oct as we couldn't see how they can possibly run it and have 100,000's of people and still manage to social distance??? Plus I think a lot of foreign pilots won't come. Hoping for a 2021 visit now.

Spent last week at a local Provincial Park and it was awesome to finally get away. It will be a Vancouver Island summer this year.

We are lucky here that the government really did a good job.... we have only got 13 people in hospital for the whole province 5 in intensive care....no new cases on Vancouver Island in over 20+ days......fingers crossed !!

Stay Safe everyone

Rules!

People won't follow the rules. You'll have people not social distancing, not wearing masks and defecating everywhere because of no bathrooms. The other problem is the chance of getting the virus while traveling to the campground, you need gas, groceries,... I don't want a bunch of people traveling to my state from a place with high rates of Covid.

This entire thread deals with a giant national issue. An issue on which people are lined up on both sides.

Here is the MA policy in writing:

https://www.mass.gov/info-details/ma...e#campgrounds-

This "Phase II Reopening Standards" PDF outlines the basics of the new social distancing etc. rules:

https://www.mass.gov/doc/workplace-s...se-ii/download

At the top of p. 2/5, certain limitations are spelled out, regarding site density/spacing, bath houses, etc..

They will start accepting reservations on this coming Monday 6/22, for camping starting 7/1.

A hard reboot state-wide to get everyone on the same "Phase II" reopening page IMO.

Happy trails,
