Hello Canada,

Please up the fines to about 20K, confiscate their vehicle, and make them a guest of the Province for 6 months.

Sincerely,

Coast to Coast

My mother never ordered shrimp, lobster, clams, etc., and I always assumed it was a religious thing. But now I’m wondering, could she have had a bad experience with a shellfish visitor?

I’m not aware of any shellfish in Niagara’s waters, but it appears we do have an abundance of autocorrect fails.

Apparently there lots of folks thinking and doing the same, and I think the hefty fines are appropriate.

Things have changed alot in a few weeks ...people here see an US plated vehicle and they start freaking out..... I doubt they will get very far before the locals turn them in. Many... many (most) people here dont want the borders open until things are under control in the US. Especially now that in BC we know that the virus originally came to us from Washington state not China ! Its a crazy world out there my friends....stay safe.

As others have stated, we (Canadians) cannot visit your great country right now. We hope that will change soon, but it looks like this summer is long gone.

We hope next summer we will be back to enjoy everything you have to offer. We already have our reservations in Myrtle Beach!

And that's unfortunate, because there are people on both sides of the border who have a right to cross because they are dual citizens or their jobs fall into the essential services category. Even within Canada people have had their vehicles vandalized when they travelled to another province with a lower case load. My wife was concerned about driving her Ontario plated vehicle in Michigan, but has had no problems. About a million American citizens live in Canada, and almost 800,000 Canadian citizens live in America.

Autocorrect is my worst enema.
If I crossed into the US illegally, I would be in trouble; maybe vehicle seized, banned for future travel etc..
Come winter, we can do a big GOT style wall of Ice and snow ;-)

Foreigners traveling in US

We went camping in Estes Park this earlier this year and although the campgrounds were full, RMNP was pleasant and not crowded. Compared to 2018, it was unbearable with the amount of foreign visitors visiting the National Park system. That year we did Bryce, Zion, RMNP and Mt. Rushmore and it was not fun making our way once we entered the parks. Not saying we don’t need or want the foreign visitors, just saying it was a pleasant experience this year.

Also, I have a friend who is in the Hospitality business in Calgary, and they are truly missing the US dollars this year. Same goes for the southern California golf courses, they are missing the Canadian influx of visitors and their traveling $$$. Reminds me of 2008...that too passed.

Just a little twist to this thread, I was talking to a friend of a friend and this second person lives in a permanent trailer park in southern Ontario for 7 months of the year and lives in a trailer park in Florida for the other 5 months. His Canadian trailer park shuts down at the end of October and he has to winterize and close down his trailer. Question...... what is he going to do when he can’t go to Florida in November?

I don’t want to pay for their upkeep in one of our jails. Fine them and drop them off in Alaska. Then give them an automatic 5 year suspension to entering Canada. They can pay for a ferry or the cost to ship their RV back.

ETA: The rules are in place so we can get control of this virus. Breaking the rules gives the virus a chance to thrive, which helps no one. I realize it is hard on people, but it is the ONLY way. Bigger spaces, fewer faces, wear a mask, and stay home as much as possible. Our collective economies will not rebound until this virus is under control. It totally sucks, but the sooner people buckle down the sooner this will be under control.

That’s a tough spot for your friend to be in. Maybe they could find a site in western canada? I was in Whistler last December and noticed the RV park on sea to sky highway up to whistler was open year round. There is a huge RV culture in the ski/snowboard scene so there should a few places to consider there.

There have been cases in Ont as well of people coming from the USA and not doing quarantine and getting fined as well. I live in Alberta on the main route from the US to Alaska and I have seen a lot of state plates going north I have no problem with that if they do what they say they are but cause an outbreak that causes me to loose my income and put the seniors and kids that I work with at risk and I be joining the ranks of people escorting violators

For a little perspective . The number of folks found violating the Alaska transit route rule has been a bit sensationalized. It happens for sure but it’s not an epidemic as the papers and on line articles report. There is a new tracking system implemented by the CBSA that should address the handful of people who take advantage. Canada can calm down there isn’t a hord of scoff-laws running around Banff. Like a previous poster mentioned there are many dual citizens on either side of the border so those out of province/state plates that people lose their minds at often belong to a person who has legal right to enter Canada or US. First Nations people can also travel across the borders without impediment.
As for when the borders will reopen? Who knows. It will definelty have a lot to do with the covid19 curve on both sides. We will also see a metered approach before a full opening. So you may see some allowances for property owners and extended family (like adult children) to enter in September. With school reopening we will see some adjustment to allow foreign students into Canada. The US already allows Canadian students to enter and upon return they do not have to quarantine as their travel is deemed non-discretionary. There will be a huge political element also when pressure from different groups sways the government on both sides to dial back closures. In April the Canadian Governemnt quietly began allowing refugees to again arrive at Canadian land borders and make claims for protection and this push came from NGO groups who lobbied feds hard.
I believe at last check 2000 Canadians had been turned around and 6000 Americans..so not massive numbers in reality.
No doubt it is hard for many folks but it’s for a good reason and hopefully the closure will be seen as helping both countries control the spread of this virus. In the meantime explore your own backyard and you’ll be amazed at what you’ve been missing...I know I have!

He could fly to Florida. I'm assuming by "permanent trailer park" you mean he doesn't move this trailer back and forth. This might mean renting a car or having his car delivered. There were people caught in a similar problem in the spring when Canadian snowbirds cut short their winter stays in Florida and returned to Canada before the RV parks here were open.

Same for GA, SC, NC, TN, KY, AL, MS, LA, AR, TX, NM, AZ, OK, AZ, CO, UT, CA. IF, November doesn't bring massive "protests," causing another assault on our liberties.

This is a real problem for many who depend on having a seasonal place to live. Many of the RV parks in Canada had to open early to accommodate returning Canadians in March. I don’t know if thy will be able to stay open this winter to accommodate full timers who can’t go south.

Friends of ours had rented a house for the winter from a couple who were travelling. The couple came home early and our friends had to move in to their 23’ trailer and begin working from home (the trailer) in March.

At our trailer park in Florida if you are a seasonal resident you can come into the park. You are asked to self quarantine for 14 days. The park is closed to daily and monthly rentals. A good number of our residents are Canadian. Going to be interesting to see how many make it back.

As to trailering to Alaska through Canada. My experience is that Canadian customs will take the time to make a full explanation of the procedure and regulations as people come through. I doubt if, after that explanation, many will elect to go sightseeing instead of following the regulations. The customs people always managed to impress me with their seriousness of regulates. One might also note that US laws about search and seizure do not apply in Canada.

I sure hope my parents don’t go to Florida this winter.
They were at their house in Florida when our Prime Minister went on the news and told Canadians it was time to come home.
It took some convincing from me to actually get them on the road because florida was not receiving the same message.
Luckily they had a vehicle and were able to drive home.
Once they arrived they were required to quarantine for 14 days.
Luckily I was available to deliver groceries to their porch and wave through the window, however I never again want to see that look on my moms face when she realizes I’m outside but she can’t hug me.
They also were not allowed to see their two grandchildren.
My parents were lucky that they had the ability and resources to get home safely, many others were had a much more difficult time.
I have friends who slept in airports for 4 days and spent $5k to get home.

I’ve never had a holiday good enough to warrant dealing with all that.

How quickly we turn?

So it comes to this all to quickly...Americans are now being referred to as "Them" and those that are not wanted, and calls to jail them start to ring out from the mobs that have formed to the north.

We welcome you as brothers for many many years and you turn on us so quickly to save your own skins...as if your now different than us?

I would say that everyone on both sides of the border start to act more in keeping with our common best interests.

As this gets worse and it will get worse we will all remember who our friends were during this time of crisis and need.

Should we start to do battle over this or should we stick together? Ask yourself "when this is over how do you want to be thought of?"

Humanity is being threatened...this is not a border issue this will spread and if we all don't band together as the human race then we will surely fall together.

Ask yourself if a war between the two countries would serve to better either party?

I suggest that both sides take a deep breath and a big step backwards and consider all the consequences for both sides should this get out of hand.

A Friend......in need

I heard from a friend on Vancouver Is. Americans with boats were there who had told customs they were on their way to Alaska but obviously weren’t. That was almost two months ago, so it started a while back. I can’t blame Canadians for keeping us out since they have done a far better job of containing the virus than we have. Few countries want Americans to visit now.
