Flamma bike rack

Hi

My Caravell 16 is going in for some warranty items and I was thinking of having a bike rack installed.
I know there are some negative posts about their reliability but they all seem to be a few years old.
Any thoughts on reliability and also access to the rear storage compartment?

Thanks

I’m revisiting this post. I never had the rack installed due to negative reviews. I’m once again thinking about it. I usually carry bikes on top of the Grand Cherokee but there are frequent times that I like to carry kayaks.
So I’ve read the negative reviews. Sometimes people tend to post about issues with a product but when some works well they have no reason to post. So my request is to hear from those that have had positive experiences with this rack.

Alternative Bike Rack

I been looking for the same thing but not what Airstream sells.
See another brand install on the rear of the trailer, these guys had it welded to the frame

I am leaning towards the Yakima

Another install welded back into the frame againnot off the bumper of body

As far as I can tell that bike rack is not approved by Yakima for RVs.

I’m not expert on this by any means but I believe that would be a lot of weight with 2 bikes plus a 32 pound rack all swaying 8 feet Or so from the wheels and connected to a single point. I’d like to see a video of this setup traveling at 65 mph before I would be comfortable doing that.

Your trailer cannot be used with the Fiamma bike rack.

It is designed to be supported by two arms on the body at the top, and bolted to the frame at the bottom. Your trailer does not have a bumper or any way to mount the rack in that location.

I have a 2020 Caravel 16 now. I have to change that in my profile but I did mention it in my post.

Nowhere in that post does it say anything about year. The only info is what is in your profile.

I work behind the counter
in an automotive store,
Sometimes I'm a "genius"
Sometimes I'm called much more

I claim I'm no Mechanic
But, when the job gets sick,
The Mechanic comes and asks me
What makes the darn thing tick.

I'm supposed to know the numbers
Of bolts, nuts and gears,
For every car that was ever made
For more than fifty years.

I'm an Engineer and Machinist
And what not, oh My Lord,
I'm supposed to be an Edison
Combined with Henry Ford.

But life would be a pleasure
And I'd grin from ear to ear'
If the customer would only tell me
The Make, Model and Year.

we installed the bumper 2 years ago. it is needed for the rack

as our bambi is less wide, we had to shorten 4 of the poles

It looks great. Have you had any issues? There are lots of posts about the top brackets failing. Iím trying to find out just how common that is and if itís related to faulty installs or more prevalent in longer trailers ect.

Most of the failures are related to more than 77 lbs total. Fiamma states that the rack will break away from the frame if weights exceed 77 lbs. and so will a clever dealer like Colonial inform a purchaser.

I thought Fiamma was an awning company. I have only seen their bike racks on Airstreams. If it fails at 77 what's i like at 60, 65 pounds. I have a very expensive carbon mountain bike with light weight components and it's pushing 25 pounds. Depending on number of bikes/weight it seems like you would be getting close to the limit.

I travel with my Yeti in the back of my truck inside the camper shell. I wouldn't hang it off the back of the trailer anyway. If I needed more room in the back of the truck I would go with the fork mount board and tow with the dinette cushions on the bed.

The only bike rack (other than Yaki's on the roof) that I've had luck with was a 1up. But they are expensive and require a hitch to mount.

Good luck on this one.
