2021 versus 2022 Caravel order

We ordered our Caravel a month ago and the salesperson told us it was a 2022 due to be offline Aug. 19, 2021. But after joining this forum and seeing people with orders for their 2021's to be offline late 2021 I called the dealership back and spoke to our salesperson. He first said again it was a 2022 (which is what I have written down from when we did the order). Then he fumbled around and said wait, it's a 2021. Not that I care the year, but the fact that *he misspoke* to start with. By accident? Maybe. But it matters for insurance purposes. I'm glad I called and asked. Also, I see on their website the 2021 Caravel 20FB is "sold" but it's the wrong interior color. I hope that one is not mine. I have not received anything from them in writing at all. But they did charge my credit card for the deposit of $2500. I asked for the convection oven, solar package and awning package. My gut tells me to get this in writing...

I had a similar issue. New model years for RVs start around April-June, so although it will be built in 2021, the odds are, if you are getting it in August, it will in all likelihood be a titled 2022 model year manufactured in 2021. Either way, you will have an Airstream with a composite (not wood) sub-floor.

Everything should be clearly indicated and laid out in the sales contract.

Which I don't even have a sales contract - all communication has been verbal. I'm not saying anything is fishy right now, but they do have my $2500 and I'm guessing at things. Not a good way to do business. Thanks much.

Yep, if you have given such a substantial deposit you should have specifics.

I would start with an email to the sales manager, documenting what has occurred so far, who you spoke to, what you were told, etc.

Good luck.

I would make sure you get a 2022 model. Airstream has not released their model year upgrades (likely minor for Caravel), but if you take the 2021 you will miss out on whatever those are. May not matter much, but since you are on the cusp and already have been quoted a 2022, make sure you get a 2022.

Are you going through an Airstream dealership or SOB?

We ordered and picked up a 2021 Caravel from an AS dealership earlier this year. I have to be honest we were a little nervous about the lack of paperwork (compared to buying a home or a car) but in the end everything worked out great.

We did get a one-page pricing sheet signed by the manager. It had the price we agreed on plus the options and financing terms. Did you get anything like that?

That is crazy..... they have your deposit without them sending you the contract...... I would not be happy with that. All you have to say is...I want to make sure we are getting what we agreed to........ Anyway, my 2c. Scott

It just depends when the newer model rolls off the line, it seems they start making the changes before summer. We had looked at 2018 models and were considering buying, went back in early July and they had one that had been ordered and delivered and rejected (guy thought they kept him waiting too long...and it was the first 2019 the dealership got...in July. Lucky for us, we got just what we wanted.

Thanks to all of you for weighing in. I called the dealership and told them the issue - that I need a buyers order! George e-mailed me one immediately and it was exactly what I wanted and what was quoted to me verbally. I appreciate all of you weighing in. Can't wait to get my 2022 Caravel 20FB (hopefully in August).

There were some nice upgrades from the 2020 Caravel to the 2021 Caravel.

I agree with others, time to get specifics after your $2500 bucks.
I'd go right to the sales manager, lots of the AS sales teams seem to be pert-timers that don't really know that much.
