Nest discontinued?

There are rumblings that the Nest will not be produced for 2021. Anyone have a confirmation on that from the Mothership?

If it's sales numbers aren't good. Then it's "good bye" Nessie...
Ever wonder why Airstream quit making 34-ft triple axle trailers? It was the numbers.

And the fact that wheel scrub is a minor issue on dual axles, but a big deal on triples. And I'm pretty sure I read that Dexter said don't use triples for that reason.

I happened to ask our local dealer about the Nest and they confirmed that it is being discontinued, but I didn't get any details or timeline.

Probably everyone else but me already knew this

FWIW Colonial's list of "Inbound Airstreams" shows 84 2021 models, but no Nests:

[scroll down for the inbound list]

FYI/FWIW

The market of fiberglass trailers is already dominated by companies like Oliver, Bigfoot, Scamp, and Casita, among others.

While the (nest) looks really good design wise, according to customers who bought one, it suffered from numerous quality issues with doors falling off, screens coming loose, interior appointments falling apart, delamination on some of the trailers, etc.

Compared to long established trailers built by companies with years if not decades of experience in the fiberglass market, and who had rigorously and compulsively ironed out many of these issues already, any new fiberglass trailer would be challenged to compete. Thor tried to compete by branding the nest as an airstream, but released the product before working out production and quality problems.

If the (nest) has been canceled, and it was because it couldn’t compete in quality with other fiberglass trailers, in an exploding RV market where every trailer is quickly being sold right now, then I hope Thor has learned a valuable if painful lesson on the importance of quality and reliability in the products it churns out.

You can win in the market place with a better mouse trap, or with a cheaper mouse trap, but you can’t win with a poor mouse trap sold at a premium price.

The magic number is 465 produced. I think most of the problems are minor and a majority of them I fixed myself. Some issues the dealer has to fix but not a deal breaker. I think this unit will one day be worth more then we paid for it. Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think the nest has a very classy look and feel.

I heard quite a while ago from a dealer they were discontuing due to sales and size, too small of an interior was a common complaint.

I never understood why Airstream added the nest to its lineup. It does look nice but it just seems like it doesn’t really offer much that’s not available on a Bambi or Sport.

He didn’t seem to be aware when we visited. Showed us a couple of Nests they had in the yard. He left his office to get us a quote and when he returned a couple of minutes later to give us the news.

I disagree. It definitely has the Airstream fit and finish inside. Have you looked at similarly sized trailers from any of the major vendors? Nowhere near the quality of an Airstream.

I think you miss read my post. The nest is very nice. I never questioned the “fit and finish”. I just think it overlaps with the products that Airstream has available. I don’t see how it was worth their time and resources to produce. What does it really offer that is not available in a Bambi 16?

To clarify a bit on my previous post. The Nest is no doubt a nice trailer worthy of the Airstream name. I just wonder if it brings new customers to Airstream that otherwise would have purchased another brand. Or does it just compete against an existing Airstream product?

Come on man, don't you think that there is a place for a quality small luxury unit that is $20,000 less then their lowest price other units. Just saying.
