Convection microwave oven plus the worlds greatest cooking tool!

In our new 30' GT we have the "oven delete" with just the convection microwave. Perfect for us since we rarely used a gas oven. My first night in the camper I did a frozen pizza in the convection oven and it was just as good (or bad depending on your choice of pizza) as in the gas oven. At home my wife has an instapot pressure cooker and we have an air fryer. They both come in handy, especially during the week for quick easy meals. We considered dragging them along with us and then found this:

https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/sto...tegoryId=16590

It's a combination air fryer/pressure cooker with a single lid. We got it for $200 with the BB&B 20% off coupon. I must admit, it's amazing. Does all the stuff our air fryer does plus the insta pot in one bucket. Took it out of the box, put a 5 pound whole chicken in it and used the "steam crisper" setting. When it was done the chicken was completely cooked, juicy and nice crisp skin. There's several YouTube channels with all sorts of cooking ideas. Going to try a pork butt this weekend and see how it stacks up against my Green Egg.

There's a more expensive version with a thermometer attachment that automatically stops the pressure cooking at a pre determined temperature. But the cheapest I've seen that is $349 on amazon. This one seems fine for us.

It does draw a lot of power (1800 watts). So it's kinda like a hairdryer and will pop the breaker if you're running something else on the same circuit in the camper.

isn't the convection oven also an air fryer?

Convection ovens have a fan in them that blow air over the heating coil. But it is a much larger space in the oven. Air fryers apparently blow the air at much higher velocity and much closer to the element. I had the same question, but apparently there is a difference. Anyway, we're drinking the KoolAid on these things. We have a convection oven at home but we use the air fryer all the time.

Jondrew, If your model is the Contoure 200S Con than it should be an Air Fryer, microwave, and convection oven all built into one.

Yes. An “air fryer” is simply a convection oven.

I suppose a hair dryer could be a convection oven too

If you can get it to 400 degrees and point it into an enclosed space, sure.

I’m also a member of the Big Green Egg cult. It’s one of my all-time favorite possessions. I’ll be interested to hear your report.

My dislike of the Airstream convection oven is that it heats up the whole trailer. ANY appliance you can use outside on a hot day is better. Nuking a cup of Progresso? Microwave is fine.

Every new gizmo has a learning curve. Don't get so many that you need to keep the instructions.

Lol, I’ve only used the convection once since we just got the trailer (cook a frozen pizza). Since it was 38 degrees that night, heating up the trailer was not an issue. We wanted the oven delete because we almost never use an oven and wanted the extra pantry space the microwave would occupy.

Let us know how that pork turns out! We’re bringing an Instant Vortex air fryer with us this year. It gets used almost every day at home.

I did a 10# bone in Boston Butt on our BGE for my son’s 43rd birthday (his request). Everyone went home full and with leftovers!

The pork butt gets cooked on pressure cooker setting. I don’t think you will get the same nice bark like I do on an egg or other smoker.

Comparing the Ninja to the Big Egg is...a bit odd. The Ninja can pressure cook, sauté, air fry, slow cook and we use ours almost everyday. We do have a small one for the trailer. But, the Big Egg is great for things you want slow roasted, smoked or fire oven cooked (pulled pork to pizza). As we speak there is a full pork butt over the coals finishing it's overnight cooking.

Gotta have both, they cook differently. It just depends on what you really want to do!

I don’t think we were comparing the two, the thread just meandered off topic. But you’re right, ya gotta have both.
