‘21 27FBQ Dublin Slate

Hello fellow GT Airstreamers-

We have just closed a deal on a ‘21 Globetrotter 27FBQ- Dublin Slate- to say we a thrilled is an understatement!!

This is our 2nd Airstream- our first being a ‘72 23ft, which we sold several years ago, and are completely psyched to be hitting the road once again.

When we went to take a look at it and sign some papers, we noticed upon closer inspection that the seams of the finish on the cabinetry looked almost like it was chipped in several places - i didn’t take good photos, but i will when i get back for a better look.

I brought this to the attention of the salesman- and he noted that the shipping “plastic” wrap which comes from the factory gets stuck in the seams when peeled off, and that may have been what i was seeing.

Regardless- in many places, it didn’t give the appearance of being new, and i damaged. It almost looks like it was cut fast with a full blade.

I guess my question is - have any of you noticed something like this pre-delivery and if so, what did you do? Will AS make good on this by replacing the cabinetry that has this appearance? Also, how well does the dark finish hold up over time and use?

Thank you in advance!

Best,

Bill

Bill, congratulations on your new GT! We have a 2019 27’ GT FBT in Dark Walnut and Dublin Slate and have been very happy with how the dark color has held up. We travel with a small dog which is why we went with the Dublin Slate color. We’re not full-timers but have done enough long trips to get a feel on how it will age.

Regarding the possible chipped cabinetry definitely inspect closely and take photos. Start a punch-list of items that need attention. You can either have the dealer take care of it or go to Ohio.

I fixed all the little things myself because I can and trust my skills. We’re heading to Jackson Center in October for everything else (like ripples in the flooring, winterizing valve installed backwards).

Hope you enjoy your Globetrotter as much as we have!

-Jeff

Thank you Jeff,

I appreciate your response and happy to hear that you are pleased with your GT.

Im attaching some photos here to share an example of what several of the seams look like. Im told its the residue from the protective plastic it ships with. dealer and sales person said they will address ths before we pick it up next week- remaining hopeful it will be resolved! Its such a beautiful interior- its a drag to consider starting out with it in poor condition.

Incidentally, did your ship with the bedspread that matches some of the decorative pillows? DW is attracted to the black bed spread and is hoping it does.

Thanks again for your response!

Bill

Hi Bill,
I just checked our trailer to compare the seams/edges to your photos. Ours are not as rough as yours. Hopefully your dealer can clean them up. I was going to suggest taking a razor window scraper carefully along the edge to trim any residue but hey, let them do it.

Ours came with the tan tweed bed covers and cream with squares accent covers. I found a stock photo from Colonial's site of them.

Hope that helps!

-Jeff
