2020 shakedown list?

Picking up next month and will do overnight at dealer checking everything out. Not my first AS but would like to know of anything to watch for from those that have owned this or 2019 GTs. Mine will be 25 twin but assuming 27s will be similar

Garfish, congratulations on your new Globetrotter!

You know the basic drill, check all the appliances, furnace and temperature dependent, heat pump. The A/C will likely work if the heat pump does.

You'll be getting the power awning so definitely cycle that a few times. Ours has a strange behavior where it periodically stops retracting about two feet short. It will close if you press open / close again. I've contacted ZipDee (sent them a video of it in action) and they promised to have their expert contact me. Still no reply after two calls...

Other than that, check the interior for fit and finish. I found a screw tip sticking out from under the galley cabinet. I slid a wedge under the cabinet and hit the screw with a punch. Problem solved!

Later, I found another screw under the flooring near the bathroom door. I was able to move it along with a dental tool until it got under the bathroom door frame. Also, after a few months we found ripples in the flooring from the twin beds to the bathroom area.

One last thing to check: Winterizing valve. Airstream installed them backwards and I don't know if they ever corrected it. Check yours while you are at the dealer to save you a trip next Fall. The handle should be pointing towards the water pump. Mine is going the other direction (see photo). This is a common complaint among GT owners...

Picked up our 2020 GT 27 FBT in August. The only issue that has arisen was the Demco coupler recall which our AS dealer fixed last month.

The flooring issue described is limited to models prior to 2020 I am told. Our unit does not have the problem.

So far so good............

Check your battery paralleling cables, the ones that run from pos to pos and neg to neg. AS saves a few pennies by making them short and straight, which prevents you from opening the caps on one of the batteries without removing the cables.

In my case, the pre delivery guy assumed that since the “easy” battery had plenty of water, no need to pull cables and check the other. And since the factory guy apparently did the same, two months later, I had to buy new batteries— not covered under warranty due to abuse.

If the cables block filler caps, make them install longer ones that bend away from the caps so that nobody else avoids the “hard” one.

So we turned the curb-side battery around and used the orig cables so we have easy access:

I would also echo the winterizing valve comment above. You should ask them to show you the valve. Ours was not visible or reachable from the nice access panel under the hall closet. It is under the refrig behind the cabinet. A placard, like this picture from the manual, should be attached near the valve so you can tell if it is backwards:

If it is backwards they will have to modify the back of the cabinet to get access to the plumbing and you will want that modification to not only look nice but be designed so you can easily get back there yourself for future winterizing and to access the screen/filter before the pump.

I have a 27 2018 GT which had a recall on the overhead kitchen cabinets, there are pictures on here with cabinets that have fallen. Checkout the leaking roof vents on the GT's as well. Batteries, awning, have already been mentioned. The undercounted sink on my unit came loose after a year which I just reinforced with some wooden supports screwed underneath. Unfortunately for me I had all the above happen as I travelled in my first year but now I think I have it covered. Other than that take her down the road and see what shakes loose. If you need any clarifications or pictures just drop me a line. I think if you follow everyones advise that posted before me your unit should be rock solid.

Next week is shakedown and washed my 25 GT in my driveway today. First time opened the segment protectors. As I was about to close the second one I glanced at the mounting hinge. Seven screw holes and two screws. I looked down the other hinge and saw four

Maybe end of screw guy’s shift and wanted to get home?

Love my GT and expect to find some other things over time. Just the way things are and just surprised, not complaining. This does make me want to look at all screw holes though

Garfish, hey I think I know what happened to your missing screws

I found one sticking out from the kick plate by the kitchen and another under the flooring in front of the bathroom door on our GT.

Honestly, I cannot believe what you found. Maybe missing one but a whole row? Must have been break time and when they got back, forgot where they left off and closed the guard.

Thought that the door on the storage looked like it might let water in. Since I don’t put things there that water is an issue still had to remove everything to dry out after rain. Any solutions?

Drill a few holes to let the water right out if there are no drain holes already.

Remove sharp edges of the holes and paint appropriately to rust proof.

I should have checked your link before I posted I used a single 80N/18lb strut which is working well for me and 3 other GT owners that I know of.

I am surprised the single 10lb strut wasn't adaquate.
