Never had 2 AC's or an Airstream as new as those. But I can say that no Airstream is really very well insulated because they are only 1 inch thick and are made of Aluminum with ribs to conduct heat. No, the polished Al is not as reflective as gloss white paint or fiberglass. The polished Al seems to respond about like light gray in the sun.

Even silver metal gets too hot to put your hand on in direct summer heat. And I'm sure it radiates both ways. Add in those wonderful windows to make a perfect oven!

Based on what others have reported the cost is $11k+ to install a bedroom AC unit in a ducted airstream. If you call airstream In Jackson center can give you a formal quote.

Yes includes new 50A 240v service.

It’s quite the job from what I understand.

Significant price difference too that needs to be considered since the GT is practically brand new.
Hi

The factory warranty on an AS is a very good thing. Extended warranties are (in general) utterly useless. If you are asked to pay anything to transfer that 7 year extended thing ... think very carefully about it.

Converting to 50A and adding another A/C unit ... lots of money and lots of hassle.

Howdy,
Own a 25ft GT FB twin. Purchased new with 50 amp 2 AC units. Traded our 30ft Classic in for the GT. Easier to park, pull etc. Was camping in Fort Wilderness, lots of shade. Second AC unit quit working! Temps 92 degrees outside. REALLY glad had opted for 2 AC units especially with our dog traveling with us! Don’t miss one less Fantastic Fan.

Get the 28 international

Hello,

I have had both floorpans and currently have a 2016 International 28U (Not sure if they still call it that, the "U" designation was for the dinette I believe) and I absolutely love it. Get the International....the long bench on the 25 is absolutely useless and is a huge waste of space.

For the 30 footer you need the 50amp/ 2AC set up for sure. We've lived in our 30 foot Serenity for 4 years and believe me, you need two air conditioners! Even with a cover in anything over 85 degrees. And for three people traveling together, you need the space of the 30 footer. And being able to NOT crawl over your partner to get out of bed: priceless!

Good choice. We went with a single AC in our Serenity based on my previous experience with a single AC being quite adequate in a 36' 5th wheel.

It turns out to be an apples to oranges comparison. The skin on the Airstream gets so much hotter than the 5th wheel and consequently, the interior gets much hotter as well.

We spent a week in Robles CA in 95+ heat in both. 5th wheel was no issue, 3 days in with the AS and we had to move on as it was unbearable as the a/c would not cool things much lower than low 80s.

In FL, you will be glad you made the choice you did.

Key differences

Hi, I’ve owned aFC 25’ FB and now a 2018 28’ International Serenity.

The key for us is not having to break down the dinette area for lounge use. Also, with the 25’ FB configuration, the dinette seat back cushions tend to get thrown all over, being in the rear of the trailer.

The 28’ and 23’ models share one unique design element no other Modern AS have: the dinette area overlooks the same side of the trailer as the door. This is a mixed blessing. On the one hand, the big windows overlook the outdoor patio area. On the other hand, opening the window adjacent to the door is a no-no, because if you open it, and then open the door without stopping it in time, you’ll be replacing the window...Also, on the 28’ Serenity, the vista view windows over the dinette area are useless when the awning is deployed.

We love the decor in the Serenity, as well as the bedroom layout. Ours is a twin with a queen mattress, so we have the panoramic windows. Ours has one AC, so it’s a 30 Amp setup. This means that if you are running the AC, using the microwave can trip the AC breaker.

Have had no issues with the one AC cooling the trailer in Florida in March & April, but we are usually outdoors during the daylight hours.

Good luck!

As I was trying to convince myself the single AC would not be an issue because we had a larger conventional trailer with a single 15k AC, it became apparent from the responses here that the airstream May look .Ike a thermos bottle, but in fact it is not that well insulated. Add to that all the windows and I think we’d be sorry campers in situations where there was no shade like some of the campgrounds we like. In any event, we just liked the GT floor plan in the 25 more than we liked the Serenity. But of course you never know till you have used it a few times. So I imagine we’ll know better in a month or so as we already have several trips planned.
