Upgraded table in 19' Flying Cloud

We've been slowly customizing our 2016 19' Flying cloud. We purchased it used so didn't have the luxury to specify the interior so I've been customizing it more to our taste.

First the look of the old table with our son eating breakfast



It's just a little bland for our taste.

We purchased a butcher block table top from Ikea, $80. It's real wood, comes with a curve in the end but unfinished. All I had to do was cut it down to size, one straight line cut, sand a little, stain, seal and mount hardware from original table.

We made it 2" longer than original to account for the larger curved end.





I think it turned out well.



We are going to extend the kitchen counter a little so having the larger curved edge will be critical in enabling easy in and out of the dinette. Table top is about 1" wider.

While the table top is 1/2" thicker the bed seems to still work just fine.

A couple of other small modifications, cosmetic. Aluminum trim for the counter tops.





We are going to replace the counter tops at some point, this was just a way to like them more until I do that.

3/4" on the stock counter tops is a little short, mostly unnoticeable. I couldn't find any which was a hair longer.

Oh, then we changed out the faucets. We like these way better. These are also Ikea faucets, $80 each. Cheap change imo.

Amazingly the trim is pliable enough to hand bend around the corners. I just held it in place on one side of the corner and slowly bent it.

The kitchen counter top corner is really sharp and you can just see in the pic that the edging bent up a little. Apparently if I heated the trim up I could have avoided that but at the same I couldn't have bent it in place either.

On the counter below the TV I also backed the trim with some double sided gorilla tape. Worked great to stick it down hard and made the screws cosmetic really. Make sure you get it right first time if you use the tape, I screwed up on the bathroom bit and I had to destroy the trim to pull it off.

The table you made just makes that area look so much warmer and richer. Nicely done and the curve is practical and beautiful. Your metal trim is also a good option for any laminate trim edges (installed by factory) that have separated (gluing them back on is futile). Nice upgrades.

Thanks! My better half came up with the ideas. "All" had to do was source the parts, cut, sand, build the table, painstakingly stain and seal it, install it then finally cut, bend and install the trim.

Anyone doing the trim, I suggest the 13/16th not the 3/4 I used. The 3/4 is exactly the same size as the material which means it peaks through at the bottom by a tiny bit. I think 13/16th would be perfect. The 13/16th will have a slight under-hang.

I pulled off the laminate trim on one edge and was surprised how easy it came off. This covers/replaces it completely.

As for the table, I questioned my wife's choice of stain, it's called Carbon Gray, made by Varathane. I must admit it works very well with the aluminum interior, great blend of color. It's finished with 5 coats of satin Varathane Polyurethane finish so should wear well.

I might trim the table too in the future but the wife doesn't want any visible joins in the material. I'll ether need a very long strip of trim or play with a aluminum solder to join two strips. Fun

Our pleasure. Even when we change out our counter tops in the future we are going to redo the edge trim like this. We love the look.
