Surge Protector
2021 Flying Cloud supposedly has a surge protector built in. Should I trust this, or use a surge protector between the AS and the 110 outlet I use to keep my batteries charged? You electrically minded folks help me out here, por favor.

I don't think so, never heard that AS installed one at the factory
ask them to show it to you

You want to make sure it is an EMS system that will not only protect against surges, but also shut down if other electric issues occur such as a wrong wiring at the pedestal.
I'm not aware that Airstream puts these in, but if they did that's a good thing. Typically for a 50 AMP EMS system that you plug in you will pay between 300 and 400. It will cost more if you need to have one installed. Well worth the money if you don't have one built in already. It only takes one bad event and it will be a very very bad day. Whether you get it built in or one that you plug in yourself (which I have) is a matter of personal preference. Happy Safe Camping.

Agree with Daquenzer, I have heard too many sad tales from fellow Airstream owners about damaged electrical systems from bad power at the pedestal. I use an EMS plug in unit. I like that the display tells me my instantaneous amp draw and incoming voltage.

Battery charging issue
Does anyone have an idea why my batteries on a new 2021 Airstream classic won’t recharge when connected to shore power and in fact continue to discharge even though I’m connected to shore power? I’m a first time RV owner and would appreciate any suggestions.

Farley055,
Does your Classic have a DC voltage monitor?
Did it ever work or correctly or is this a recent problem?
Any chance to get a meter on the 12VDC system like right on the POS and NEG terminal of one battery and measure the voltage?
Keep the info coming or consider starting your own thread in this section https://www.airforums.com/forums/f449/ , and welcome to Airforums.

You really need to start your own thread rather than hijack this one. If you do so, I will post a possible answer for you.

You might also consider using a voltage booster. This type of unit not only protects you from voltage spikes but also from low voltage. Instead of simply disconnecting power during a brown-out, a voltage booster will try to keep the voltage at an acceptable level until it absolutely has to disconnect.
