Removing Airstream Registry disk

I am trading in my 2017 FC23FB for a 2024 FC28RBTwin. I want to remove the registry disk off of my 2017. Does anyone have a way to remove it without scarring the trailer?

Thank you

You could try dental floss or fishing line. I've used it before to remove items mounted with double stick tape. Hold it taut and slowly work it down behind the plate.

Spray WD-40 behind it to soften the glue, then use the floss, or a high E guitar string.

I have used fishing line to floss off items with success.

Might not hurt to apply some localized heat to soften the glue with a hair dryer along with the dental floss?

Be sure and tell DW that it's "for my hair" when she asks you where you are going with her dryer.

This is what I did. Hair dryer followed by fishing line. Cleaned off the little bit of residue with Goo-Gone.

The fishing line broke, but I have a putty knife with the sharp corners rounded off with a grindstone. Heat, the putty knife, and GooGone took care of it.

Thanks everyone

Don't use tools behind the disk - aluminum is soft and easily dented.

Shouldn't the medalion with the VIN and name remain on the trailer? Isn't it bad luck to rename an Airstream?

We used to sail, and some sailors can be a very superstitious lot, and for them, renaming a boat is mondo bad luck.

If you do rename your Airstream, perform a 'de-naming ceremony':

This ceremony can be performed by writing the current name on a piece of paper, folding it, placing it in a wooden box, and burning it. The ashes are then scooped up and thrown into the sea.

I guess you don't play guitar.

The E string would not have broken, like that flimsy dental floss!

However DO NOT use an E string as dental floss!

Throwing the ashes in the sea might work for a boat, but shouldn't they throw their ashes on an interstate?

I think the people in the Interstate might object...?

A simple campfire ceremony is sufficient. At least one flamingo and a bottle of rum is required.
