How does that work with a trade in? Do they take your current AS now?

i keep my current sport until the new AS arrives in 2023.
the sports current value was calculated into what i owe.
they said the used market is very hot and would have no issue reselling my well kept AS. i got good value for it thus didn't need to sell privately

Hi
We have a similar deal going on a long running car trade in.
With a trailer in "cold country" there isn't much use for part of the year. You still pay insurance. There is some risk of damage. You may be paying storage costs.
You might consider dropping off the trade at the end of next summer and let the dealer play with it over the winter. ( Yes, I've been thinking about this stuff and looking at the car out in the driveway .....).
Spring 2023 could be May or it could be August. There's no way to really know. If it does turn out to be August, dropping the Sport off early takes out a chunk of prime camping season..... it's never easy ....

The 25 footer with the rear hatch looks very cool. I'm looking forward to hearing a more detailed report once you take delivery in 2023.

Very cool. We have a 23CB FC 2020 and have also ordered a 27 International w Hatch with a delivery date of early Jan 2022. We did not get such a great deal for our FC on the trade. Thinking about selling it ourselves.

We have the same configuration except upgrades to solar, AC and lift kit. Took delivery in April 2021, 7 months after order. Hopefully you can get the time whittled down. I ordered bare as I could and had dealer finish installs and upgrades.
We love the hatch!

So placing that order so much in advance, are you paying 2022 prices are do you have to pony up and pay the difference once 2023 prices are established. Just curious.
I know I did my deal to trade my 2001 Safari and order a new Classic for winter delivery back in 2003. Dealer was a little nervous because I made the deal in early September and had one more trip planned in October. All went well and when I came back from that trip, I brought the trailer to him the next day after I returned. As it ended up as I was pulling the hitch off the Safari at the dealership, he had already called an interested buyer and upon inspection, bought it as I continued to pull the hitch.

That's a tempting scenario. We are considering upgrading to a 30' classic in the next couple of years and setting up a deal now with our 2017 27' FC would be attractive.

Hi
My guess is that most dealers would be a bit hesitant to lock in a trade in value on a deal a year and a half out. Even more so it the trade in value is right up there (which the one the OP got is).

The unknown here for readers is did the OP buy his / her 2017 new or used, if used it’s understandable that the trade in is what was paid, bought new sounds like a super deal. Interesting that the dealer believes market will be so strong 2023.

That's crazy! I ordered a new 2022 Flying Cloud 25fb 2 weeks ago and I got a build date of mid-March with Delivery in April. I even got the VIN number. And it was not a cancellation, the dealer had several of these order slots available. Is your dealer low volume?

It can be tricky to compare trade in values. The original poster paid more for their new 25’FC than we just paid for our new 27’GT so the extra trade in value compensated for that. It really is all about the differential. Now higher trade in also decreases your taxes so that also needs to be part of the calculation.

Hi
If you are financing the new trailer through the dealer *and* they know this up front, that can factor into the whole "what sort of deal is it" calculation. There typically is a "kick back" to the dealer for originating the loan.

Is your dealer an Airstream only dealer? Woodland AS I Grand Rapids Michigan said they could get you one by April.

That certainly may happen I don’t know anything about that. We didn’t use dealer financing in our case. I don’t know what sales tax is like in your state, here in BC, GST & PST = 12% and in Ontario, the combined tax is 13%. That is why I mentioned the differential. Tax is calculated on the sale price - the trade in value. An $80,000 trade can save you close to $10,000 in tax. Selling privately means you have the inconvenience and must sell for $10,000 more just to break even.

We ordered a 25 FB in December 2020, and are taking delivery in 10 days or so. While we ordered a 2021 model, they are delivering a 2022. No change to the pricing at all.
