Looking at the purchase price of the post for a 2013 bought at $49K made my stomach ache a bit, but I ran the math. $49K increasing 10% for 10 yrs is ~127K so it doesn’t seem too far off. This is our first AS so I have no idea if 10% escalation each year is real. For now I’m still content with my purchase price and delivery window, but would love to hear others experience. I don’t remember the exact math without looking at my files, but remember it was double digits percentage off MSRP.

I should have mentioned that I paid $49k for the 2013 in 2017. i feel prices have gotten a little frothy on campers in general. these prices will correct in time. i just feel bad for any who might be caught at the top of the cycle.

Hi
Regardless of where you look, the supply of "new" this or that is running more than a bit behind demand. Folks who would have bought new are out buying used. That's driven up the price of used this or that quite a bit. It's true of insane prices being paid for homes, crazy trade in's on trucks, nutty offers for 2 year old cars, some friends say it's true of boats, and (of course) we have seen it in RV's.
Yes, the shortage of "new" is only one driver on some of this, but it is true on all of these items. As the supply of new catches up, that has to have an impact on the used market. On most of this stuff, nobody is going to pay more for a used this or that vs a brand new one *if* they can get the brand new one. Yes, on homes location matters so it's not quite the same thing .... For whatever reason, some folks seem to like low miles used trucks more than new ones (and pay accordingly), I have never quite figured that out.
Once we "get back to normal", you can pretty much anticipate that your shiny new whatever will depreciate 20 to 30% the second it leaves the lot. No that's not 20% off MSRP, that's 20% off the check you just handed the dealer. It will not keep doing that every second after that point It will drop a bit each year. How much that is gets into a "that depends" sort of thing.
If inflation bumps up into the teens, that can and will have an impact on this. Your "loss" in dollars will be masked by the fact that those dollars are not worth as much. Indeed, this has created "sold it for more than I paid for it" situations on all of the above items in the past. Used prices also tend to follow new prices, If Bentley raises prices by 10% a year, you get a bump on the one in your garage.
So yes, at some point, you can indeed bet we will get back to a more normal situation. Just how you do the math on this or that situation is a bit tricky. There are a bunch of variables ....

Depends on the "price" they paid...remember was not long ago we were able to get 20-23% discounts on prices that were 10-15% lower than they are charging now... We paid $76K for our 17' 28FCT new. Getting a locked in trade value almost 2 years out from delivery may just be that they are paying "list" for the new AS and dealer has big margins? Interesting times....wonder if they could get at a different dealer sooner; doesn't volume size of dealer play into their priority status in line? Just seems an awfully long time to wait?

Hi
There's always a price, I hope that they didn't take a 40% hit on the deal. Every time I've done this sort of "extended trade in" there has been an "out" on the value of the trade.

On our first 06' 25' Safari Limited, we were almost snookered into a deal at the dealership, that sounded too good to be true on a new 2010 25'AS model; went in to sign the papers and almost signed, till we started breaking the deal down with the trade, some financing and "set up" charges. Essentially, they had overvalued my trade in and tried to add $8K to the cost of the new AS financing. We canceled the "new" order, ended up putting ours on consignment on their lot; we wanted $34K at the time; found out they sold it for $40K in 3 days. We ended up getting a Casita couple years then back to AS...rest is history. Watch out for the dealer deals....its all in the details..

Wow thanks! I didn't know that about the hatch! Yes I just found out it will be an additional 6 months for mine. So it will indeed be a little over a year now. sigh

Not sure where you are at in the process, but we got lucky and found a dealer with units already in the production queue, when we ordered the date shifted, but our dealer worked with the factory to get us on the hatch line since it was a customer vs floor stock order. It came off the line yesterday, off to QA then quick 1/2 day trip for delivery. We could have it by the week of the 16th, but realistically before end of month. That’ll put us right at 6 months order to delivery.

I just put a deposit on a 2023 FC 23FBT yesterday. Went to order one and they told me someone canceled and the unit is currently being built and should be delivered within the next month (8/22). It was exactly what I planned to order with the new twin beds in this model. Not only is it my first AS, it’s my first rv. Never even been camping before! Retiring soon and want to get a head start. Will be travel with the family, i.e. 3 well behaved dogs and a tamed Macaw.
