Jack it bike rack

Has anyone had trouble fitting the Jack It bike rack on the front of their trailer? These are in very short supply and very difficult to get. Well I persisted and I was able to get one for my 2020 flying cloud. Our flying cloud has the hatch on the back so I needed a bike rack up front. The jack it bike rack looked like it would be perfect but when I got it home and unpacked it the lower frame piece that goes around and over the jack was 22.5 inches inside where the jack goes. Even though my jack is a Lippert 4000 pound electric jack and this bike rack is from Lippert- the jack is 26” tall and the two will not fit into the same space. I contacted the manufacturer and they are aware of the issue and told me they do no make a taller one and I would have to buy a smaller jack to make it work. Instead of spending 400+ on a new jack I went to steel supply company and got plenty of steel to make it taller. Got all the pieces cut and fit today. Will weld and paint tomorrow.

I think I will do another modification

The original design has the bike holder cantilevered over the propane tanks. I think loading would be much easier if it was straight up or turned forward. Tomorrow when I get up I will make a straight one.

Bottom installed on trailer

After modifying the length of the Jack-It bike rack bottom section I put it on the trailer. Around and over the jack. Fit good and now I will setup and figure the top section tomorrow.

Completed second modification to bike rack

Converted the offset of the bike rack to straight up. My thought here is that it will allow propane bottles to be swapped without disassembling any part of the bike rack. Also to address the negative feedback of some individuals that the bikes have to be lifted high up to connect. With the new straight up piece I will be able to put my tailgate down and easily load and unload the bikes on the rack from my tailgate. It also supports opening the front window outer protector/awning.

Bike rack modifications are done.

Completed and assembled today and put bikes on. Easy to do from tailgate of tow vehicle. Plenty of room to the front of the trailer and good access to propane tanks. Making the bike holder go straight up also makes it easy to load from truck tailgate. Much improved design for the airstream.

Beautiful work. No concern about the loss in aerodynamics?

Not sure

We have not taken it out on the road yet but you pose a good question. We are off to Colorado in 3 weeks and I will have to see the impact. I am assuming that most air will flow thru the bikes. The trailer did pull exceptionally well before the add.
