Is the Ultimar treatment worth it?
We're about to buy a 2018 23FB FC. It's on consignment at an Airstream dealer. The dealer is suggesting the Ultimar treatment for $3,900. Seems pretty steep to me, just wondering if you think it's worth it? Seems like you'd have to do a fair amount of exterior/interior damage to come out ahead on that, but this is our first Airstream (or any trailer, for that matter), so it's hard for me to judge.

Ultimar=Ultimate Dealer Profit
Wash and wax your Airstream couple of times a year and call it done.
I would be very careful with this dealer about any additional Dealer Fees they try to add on. Pushing a $3900.00 add on would make me real suspicious.
Any other dealer in the area you could use that doesn't try to put the screws to you?
Watch out for so called "Extended Warranty" offers.

Thanks, this is helpful. He did suggest a one-year warranty, which I'll say no to. And I think I'll skip the Ultimar treatment too!

Inspection upon delivery
If you do purchase, make sure you do a VERY thorough inspection from top (take a ladder with you) to the bottom (crawl underneath and have a good look). Make sure everything works and it is demonstrated to you. Have them show you how to work the HVAC, Water Heater, Onboard water pump (should have some water in fresh water tank), Sound system, TV's, etc. You get the picture. Open and close every door and window. Have them show you how to open and close the front window guards (tricky little 1/4 turn screws hold these in place). Check the tire pressure on the road wheels and make sure the spare tire is properly inflated. Have them show you how to remove the spare tire from its holder and how to get it back in the holder.
Your delivery walk thru demonstration should take at least 3 or 4 hours if conducted properly and all systems are verified to work. If possible video as much as you can especially the operation of the HVAC thermostat control.
If possible, spend a night or two on the dealership property making double sure everything works and you understand how to operate all systems. You should receive a big bag of manuals and an Airstream manual. Read all of the material. If you find something amiss, have em fix it before you leave. They should provide you with a fully functioning Airstream. Good luck.

In addition to washing and waxing, modern ceramic type paint protection treatments can be helpful, especially if your trailer has to parked outside. We got a ceramic treatment on our 25' Globetrotter that is guaranteed to prevent staining or other surface damage to the finish for 7 years. It beads water like crazy even without waxing, which I do anyway for extra protection. IMHO these kinds of coatings have some value on trailers just like they do on high end cars where their use is common.
That said, at $3900 the dealer is quoting you a hugely inflated price. We paid less than half that for a larger trailer than yours. Examine your potential purchase carefully. I become suspicious whenever someone tries to take advantage. Good luck.

Have the dealer show and explain the date codes on your tires. Any 3-4 years old should be replaced to avoid the consequences of a blow out. Trailer tires don't go flat the explode. Ask me how I know!

Thank you for that suggestion. I have been wondering if I should replace my 6 year old tires. I’ll take your word for it and won’t ask.
