Fantastic fan rain sensor
Howdy to all,
We have a FC 20’ FB and was told by the dealer that the rain sensors were no longer connected since there was a lot of problems with them. To our surprise it was working and didn’t work the way it should. It will not stay open in the evening and will not open until the dew is bone dry in the mornings. I was wondering if anyone has disconnected their sensors. I would like to fix this myself as the dealer is quite far. Sorry if there are posts on this as I suppose there are many but I cannot find my way around this website very well. Thanks for any help that you may provide.

We have the same problem with one of our FF vents. Fixing it is on the list. You might start here...

I cut the wires on one because I couldn't figure how to pull the connector. I figured it out on the second one. There is a locking tab that has to be depressed to pull the connector from its mate on the circuit board. That is all you have to do to stop the up/down/up down from dew.

I didn't want to cut wires in case I wanted to restore it to original configuration. There are about 6 screws (if memory serves) and the plate inside the RV will drop down and dangle from the wiring. Unplug the rain sensor from the circuit board, and put the plate back up with those screws. Be sure the knob syncs with its gear. It is an easy 10 minute job.

Thanks to all of you, I was hoping to be able to disable it without crawling on top of the trailer and it sounds from the most of you that it can be done from the inside. I will give it a try later this week as it is stored now a ways away from where we live.

Cleaning the sensor helps a bit, but morning dew still activates it.

I believe you can pull down on the knob to make the fan run manually. Never tried to see if that would defeat the rain sensor. Try it - if it works you are golden.

Disengaging that knob has never worked for me or maybe I’m missing something. When sensor is moist/damp/wet that little motor thing runs constantly. I’m thinking of disconnecting the sensor as well since I only keep the vents on when I’m around or if we are certain of no chance for precip.

At least on the older Fantastic Fans, to overcome the morning dew problem, we'd tell the owners that before going to bed, bring the fan to close, then open it back up. When it gets open about two to three inches, grab the up/down motor knob and simply stop the motor from turning. Don't pull down on the knob, just stop it from turning.
The fan will be running but the lid will not be fully open and when the fan stops after the temperature has cooled down, dew will not settle on the sensor because the lid is over it. If you stop the lid on the way down, the rain sensor will be disabled and won't close in a heavy rain. Always stop the lid on the way up. And BTW, if you open the fan and then turn the speed knob to "0", power to the fan is turned off and if it rains, the fan will not close. Always leave the power setting on something other than "0".

FF Rain Sensor
First mod I made on our 2017 International and now our 2019 FC 25 was disconnecting the rain sensors on both fans. Maybe 5 or 10 minutes per fan. Easy peasy. Second mod was installing the FF "Ultrabreeze" covers on both fans with the optional bug screen (separate part). Took maybe 20 minutes per cover to install. No more fan closing just when you need it most. We leave our fans open most of the time. It has to be raining really hard and the wind blowing just right to have any water droplets come in after installing the FF "Ultrabreeze covers. We choose white ones. Happy travels.

like many devices, you need to keep the sensor clean. a lot of dirt builds up, some of it is semi-conductive.
clean carefully and the senor will work again as advertised

Take a green scotch pad & WD40 clean the rain sensor, wipe dry with alcohol, (Aqua Velva werks gud).🤔

After I installed vent covers I didn't have the problem anymore and I can leave the fans to automatically do their thing with no false triggering with morning dew.

I had to go look at my fans to be sure but I remembered....my fans actually have a switch to turn off the rain sensor. A rocker switch with a red label on one end to warn you that it is off. Clearly I rarely use the switch, especially since I have a cover over the salon fan. My trailer was built in 2012. Do the new Fantastic fans not have the switch?
