Anyone else feeling forced to sell?

I love my AS, but in this Covid-apocalyptic-political-supply/demand problem-everyone wants a camper now-aluminum turned to gold etc etc world or whatever has caused this, my AS is now worth $10-$25,000 more than I paid for it. I love everything about my 25 and there’s not another model I’d prefer after contemplating and contemplating it. I mean, I’d like a little Bambi for one nighters and a 33 Classic because why not, ha ha, but in the real world my model is perfect for me. I kinda want a Winnebago Revel too, ha. I just love campers and want them all [emoji23], but I also have no real reason to sell outside of this boom. I worry a little about a “reverse boom” and given I’m fairly young and don’t “need” an Airstream I wonder if now is the wise time???

Anyway, I wonder if anyone else is feeling this pressure. Kinda feels financially irresponsible to not sell right now. No? Someone give me their opinion, please.

Have a 2007 22’ Internationsl CCD. No interest in selling it. Busily improving a few things and planning some trips this year. It’s the family Airstream, first bought by my youngest son, passed on to us for now, snd when we are done with it, he gets it back.

Understand that our family has never been politically, aerodynamically or financially correct, and around here, “Normal” is a setting on the clothes dryer. So not caring a whit about the state of the market fir Airstreams would be our view...besides, it’s totally paid for!

Only sell if you want to. Yes, I get the sell high and buy low later thing but if you are already in your perfect Airstream. Would it be worth it?

I got sick about five years ago and had to sell ours. Got better but not well so we bought a vintage (Narrower and lighter) which of course helped our desert boondockig.

But I still miss my last one. That 25 FB was the best trailer Airstream ever made.

Valuation of your Airstream is simple. It’s worth what someone else is willing to pay and if that number is higher than your desire to keep it, then .......

You are correct the market is booming and if you can sell your unit now at the high and then buy again at the bust then that might be a “wise” move.
Personally (as may be the same for you) My airstream is paid for so cost of ownership is low and since I’m not planning to get out of the Airstream game anytime soon I feel it would be hard to sell mine now.

Timing the market is a fools errand. Should you buy bitcoin, tesla, or sell? There will always be stories of the guy who bought it at $5 and now its now $100. They never talk of the other guy who bought at $80 and now its selling at $10.

What's often ignored is commissions and taxes on sales and purchases.

Not everything is a commodity. Families, children, memories.

If you are young, sell now....go find some other hobbie that brings as much joy.
Then when the used market flips, buy back in. Very smart move.

For anyone who is old. They might not have the benefit of years left and this might be one of their number one hobbies. Sell now and regret losing a favorite hobby. Wait a couple of years, buy back in. Life is fickle. Time might not be so kind.


For all those in the middle age range. same still applies.....
Is anyone willing to give up this hobby for a couple of years?

In the big picture of life, 10K to $25K isn't much. Not enough for me to sell an Airstream unless I was done wanting one.

Only you can answer this one, but for me and my circumstances, I don’t feel the slightest bit of pressure, in fact I feel the opposite, I am grateful I was able to find a (slightly used) trailer *before* the market for RVs went crazy. No way I want to start that search process all over again. I think no matter where you are in the stages of adult life, the one absolute is you will never get the time back, and opportunity cost (lost experiences) is a huge factor for me. I got my trailer because I have many dreams to pursue, I don’t really care how much I could sell mine for, I like my unit, and it will cost me the same relative boost to replace so I won’t gain anything. I don’t want to sit on the sideline with nothing, waiting for the supply/demand ratio to tilt in my favor. If I didn’t like my trailer, perhaps, but I like what I have and I’m not interested in short term profit. This view is probably going to vary widely, that’s why I think only you can decide what is your best course of action. Best of luck, do what’s right for you.

I have thought about it, but fleetingly.

I could sell it fully furnished for way more than I paid for it, I don’t doubt.

But, I’m not done traveling.

As someone who is on the buy side of the equation, I can’t tell you how many times I have said “are they out of their minds?” lately. Everyone thinks that their Airstream is a potential goldmine. I saw a mid 90s Excella the other day advertised for around $45,000. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would pay this much. Yes, it had some nice modifications to it, but it wasn’t gold plated. The axles, frame and subfloor are more than 20 years old. Those are what drive the value to me, not the fact that it was made to look pretty. I have noticed over the last month or so the inventory is starting to go up, and that surely means prices will come down. Maybe not immediately, but I expect by the end of the summer things will have started to normalize. Unless something absolutely perfect comes along at a reasonable price, I’m going to wait.

Just my opinion, free of charge, but you should be feeling financial pressure to sell only if you're in the RV business.

With that said, if someone were to offer me an outrageous sum of money for my trailer, I would at least consider it. But it would have to be outrageous, because I have no interest in selling.

House prices are high now also, so I sold my house and moved into my Airstream, but prices on the Airstream got so high I could not resist and that's up for sale. I plan on living in a van, down by the river. In case old rusted out panel vans become the next hot item to skyrocket in price I have a large cardboard box I've been saving.

For me boats, bikes, camping equipment ect get sold when they are no longer used regardless of price. I’d prefer to sell rather then have them take up space and become outdated and worthless. If that coincides with the market being high then great. If not then oh well.
These things aren’t investments. They are toys.

It’s a bit cold down by the Pawcatuck river just now. And come summer, the tourists will drive you out, anyway. Maybe you can boondock in the Walmart parking lot?
