2021 27FC finally coming out of warranty work

I'm convinced a protected dealership territory is a bad bad thing.

Long story short, scheduled warranty work with our regional dealer. They kept it for 3 months with the two major items unaddressed. Brought it back to them for months now for a second go. It took opening an owner ticket with Airstream to finally get movement. Turns out the dealership was waiting up until 2 weeks ago for warranty authorization that Airstream approved over 6 months ago.

The first ten months, we traveled every month totaling 15k miles. It's essentially been at the Austin area dealership since the beginning of OCT 21.

Competition is healthy. It would be good to have more regional options. Nine months is to long to not be able to use something we paid so much money for.

It's done and home!

10/21 to 7/22.

Only snafu at pickup today was the bent tongue jack they had to replace before we could hitch up and go home.

Now to clean it up and load it up. Got some family to see 855 miles from here!

Warped front axle and a weird floor wall separation issue.


The second item worried me since it was a structural event, the dealership said they've seen a lot of it. A gusset that supports the floor panel was welded from the factory a little bit lower than it should have on the frame. This allowed the floor panel to drop under load and vibration in that one area and separate from the bulkhead above.

There were some real challenges in communication between the dealership and the factory. The factory apparently authorized all the work in December but the dealership didn't know that until I was able to tell them this month. I guess the old black boot army would call it a snafu. I don't know what the new stress card army calls it.

My opinion is dealers are a great place to buy a Airstream and minor maintenance but for major service take it to Jackson Center it's a long drive but in the long run it will probably save you time and frustration
