Summer in the City

Yee Ha!

Summerized the trailer this morning . . . now let's get some campgrounds open!

A classic from 1966? [ . . . I don't remember the 60's that well . . . . . . ]

Great beat for hittin' the road.

Peter

Hi Chevl66, I know your relocation of the TV is old news and saw your pics (look great) but I was wondering if you (or anyone else) had "after" pics of what you did with the top of the fridge after moving the TV. Did you leave the large wood box that the TV was previously mounted on? if it came off, was that difficult and did it look bad afterwards (seems like it would free up even more space on top of the fridge.
Thanks!

Hi Steve,

Are things in Colorado opening up enough that you are planning some local trips? Our trailer is ready to go, as soon as the local CG's open up. Maybe next week, they say.

BTW I had blood drawn today for my IiG antibody test for the virus, which is supposed to be one of the accurate tests. Curious to know if that February flu was actually Covid-19. Needless to say a "positive" for antibodies would open up some of life's possibilities . . .

Travel safe.

Hi Peter......Shhhhhhhhh....don't tell anyone that our campgrounds have been opening up....LOL.

I went out on a four day trip last week, have a 10 day one planned for July and a 6 day one booked for August so far. The place where I went last week has sites that are about 50 or so feet apart. Most people were wearing their masks and practicing social distance.

I have been wondering about your health...thanks for the update and let us know about your camping experiences at the end of the world.

Either one works . . . "let's go camping" . . . in either event!

PS -- Glad you got that trip in, and have more planned. Were the CG bath houses open for showers etc.?

Currently, only the restrooms are open. No showers or laundry facilities can be used though.

Which floor plan [bed arrangement] in the 25' are you thinking of? We had a rear-corner bed 1985 Sovereign 25', and that length is really good for a couple IMO.

We have been considering selling the FC20, but this virus deal has us thinking twice about the marketplace right now. It would be great if you could post some prices [purchase/trade in] you have been discussing with the dealer. No need to jinx the deal at this point, but it would help us greatly to know what the market is doing, so maybe you could update us all after the deal is done? Thanks.

Happy trails!

Peter
Peter,

After a dry streak of nobody inquiring...they came out in the last 2 weeks. I listed for 40ish...end up at 37.

The market is good to sell at the moment as there is a shortage and many folks are moving into camping.

Were still here camping...we now have a 2018 International 25fb.

Also unit sold thru Air forums.

Robert

Sink and shower drain

Has anyone had problems with water not draining in bathroom. I don't have any trouble with kitchen.

Can I use DrainO? Or other drain opening product?

Have you removed the trap under the sink? Put a bucket or large pot under before you loosen the knurled “nuts” as excess water will dribble out. How about hair etc. “trapped” there, or in the sink stopper mechanism? Hold off on Drano for now IMO.

Or are you referring to the shower maybe?

Anyone else here thinking the toilet is too high for comfort? The following thread has some suggestions, including details and photos of raising the floor 4" . . . which I think I will do . . . maybe even mentioned this here before?

I think our large cast iron pan will fit under this . . . TBD.

Now to christen the throne on a short camping trip soon hopefully.

Quick question. Does anyone run their air conditioner from a 12 gauge extension cord on a 15 amp circuit? I need to verify if my unit is working properly
Thanks
Jerry

Yes IMO -- assuming you have the Dometic 13.5k A/C unit -- should work if:

-- your 15 amp house circuit has very little else on the breaker
-- all plug/socket connections are clean [not corroded etc.]
-- your batteries are fully charged [so converter is drawing min 120-volt power]
-- nothing else in the trailer is using the 120-volt power [fridge, water heater, outlets etc.]
-- you set the A/C fan speed to Low before the unit turns on.

I just tried this last week, and it worked fine. Let the unit run for 15 minutes to make sure. One other time, I mistakenly had the fridge on Auto, and I think it called for 120-volt power, which tripped the house 15 amp breaker supplying the whole operation. I turned the fridge off entirely and all was good.

PS -- For the shore power connection, we have a very short cord at the trailer, not the OEM cord [~30'] supplied by AS. Our setup thus reduces the total run of the cords to ~53' [house duplex outlet to trailer connection socket] -- about 27' less than normal. This reduction could be a part of this working for our unit IMO.

PS2 -- We also have a #10 50' extension cord, but our old #12 seemed to do this a couple of years ago, as I recall. I would keep the long extension cord out of the sun for this experiment. If the setup is too much for your system, it should trip a circuit breaker in your house panel. Monitor your extension cord for overheating etc., to be on the safe side.

[all in my personal opinion]

Good luck,
