Is that wormy maple? It looks very nice, but can it still be lowered and used as a bed without splitting lenghtwise?

It's ambrosia maple. I reinforced it by steel bars underneath and it's doweled together. No, it's permanent......

20-footers

Can it be made in away for those of us that need the extra bed?

To clarify -- is the photo in a recent post from the front of your 25' Airstream? [per your ID to the left] And not in a 20' AS?

Noted in photo, through window: vehicle and top of propane tank cover.

By "permanent" do you mean that it cannot be lowered to make a bed?

Thanks,

Peter

To clarify -- that photo is in the front of Sue's 25' I am guessing? Through the window note vehicle and top of propane tank cover.

Thanks,

Peter

Good guess. It's possible to make it so it lowers into a bed. You can't see the new pedestal leg in the picture, but, it works just light the 26U. The pedestal just needs to be centered. I elected to make it "permanent" so I could make the table width narrower and a little longer. Since I'm a solo traveler (most of the time), I decided to go this route.
Addressing the "strength" -- I built it so a 500 pound person can sleep on it (ha, ha).

Ambrosia Maple or Wormy Maple - they're the same, 'though "Ambrosia" sounds nicer for a dining table

My version has some wormy maple, as well as cherry, walnut, and curly maple.

In mine the boards run sideways for bed strength, with battens under the table to make it strong lengthwise too. Mine's in a FC 28

I love how the custom tables transform the look of the interior!

Dexter lift completed

Thought I'd post my results after installing 3" lift kit for others that might be interested. We have a 2017 20' FC. Installation was straight forward with some difficulties removing old nuts and rerouting the gas line but nothing too crazy. I would still recommend hiring someone competent to do the job and make sure all nuts are torqued on properly. I have now driven about 1000 miles and don't notice any difference in towing capability. I DO notice that I am not scraping on my driveway or in gas station aprons during my travels. This was a big improvement in this regard. I had the experience (unwanted but educational) of pulling it through 50-60 MPH cross and head winds returning from Joshua Tree recently and I'm happy to report that the little Bambi did great. Let me know if anyone has questions.

Nice table....... now if I had enough nerve, I'd try ambrosia maple wood slab...... but couldn't lift it to install it...... and increase in tongue weight.

That last photo is also from a larger AS, a 28', and the earlier photo was from a 25' .

FWIW -- IMO our FC20 would feel too "busy" inside with a wood-grained table top in such a small space. We like the uniform semi-off-white color scheme of the upholstery fabric, Formica counters and table, and louvered shades, which are all reflected nicely in the aluminum-skinned interior.

The net effect is to make the small-ish FC20 feel much bigger inside, in our opinion. A dark table wood just not work . . .

YMMV!

Cheers,

Peter

Good morning all.....I am posting an update on the water heater issue. The RV repair place called yesterday and said they had to do some adjustments and replace the inline fuse. They said they have left it running since last thursday and that it is running fine. Atwood now has backed out of covering it under the warranty because it was an adjustment. I reminded the repair facility that I had adjusted the tube several times and replaced several of the inline fuses. It's going to cost $236 for the repair. I will pick it up today and see what happens when I am camping this weekend. This darned water heater has been so frustrating. Cross your fingers.....I don't know what else to do. Have been dealing with this ever since buying the Airstream new in 2016.

Thanks for the update, Steve, are you still covered under the AS warranty from the purchase? I would submit everything to AS and ask for reimbursement.

Speaking personally from the Northeast, it is time to get on the road again!

Yes Steve, Peter is right. If this has been a problem and has not been resolved while under warranty you have a real case.
Also, the repair shop may have left it on but they did not use it like you would while camping. IOW, taking showers washing dishes etc. you want the system to cycle off and on multiple times. GL with it

Steve, put you notes together. Do not pass go but. Dial 1-800 jacosoncetner. It has always been an issue with me when the dealer throws up their hands and says it's a component mfr's issue.

Take no prisoners and demand solution to your satisfaction. This is a JC warranty responsibility. I don't pass over lightly on the level of dealer support...OEM or otherwise. Personally..i see my dealer as AS.

Just like HUD and PJ's (participating judisdictions) there is no difference in policy or liability.

Good luck!

I am so glad you guys chimed in! I will contact Jackson Center, probably in writing, so that the trail of documentation continues. I am leaving tomorrow for a 5 day trip in the Airstream and will give the water heater a good workout then as well. I will report back.

I assume you mean via email? Depending on your computer backup system, and redundancy, you might want to print out the emails, and/or write them a letter sent certified return receipt.

When our tow vehicle got rear-ended a couple of years ago, it proved very helpful that I could provide old correspondence to verify certain aspects of the insurance claim.

Have a great trip! [photo documentation required . . . ]

Happy trails,

Peter

Thanks Peter....I am going to write the letter and send it via snail mail...certified is a good idea as well. First, I will make a phone call and see where that goes. It's pouring rain, in buckets, here this morning. I am camping about 5 miles down the road from the house. Will wait to leave until this afternoon and hope the rain has let up some. I am going to keep the water heater turned on for the entire weekend and give it a good workout.
