Winterizing Classic to -50F???

Getting ready to winterize our Classic here in Northern Wisconsin for the first time ever. As if I wasnt nervous enough trying to sort out the various valve directions already, I realized that it routinely gets below -10F for a few days if not weeks up here. Having never read the fine print on any antifreeze before, I found this passage on the newly purchased antifreeze bottle interesting:
“This product is rated for a ‘burst’ pressure rating of -50F. For any PVC pipe purpose, this product will begin to form ice crystals at 14-18+F and is only rated by copper pipe test to not burst before -50F. The burst pressure for PVC applications will be significantly lower than -50F. If you are winterizing PVC applications please buy our product rated for -100F.”

Thanks Starbrite for putting that in the microscopic writing on the back of the jug and the -50F rating in GIANT TYPE on the front label..... Did i mention I went to 4 different stores to find this?

Now what? Anyone have any wisdom to share on this? Who knew there were 2 ratings and to need the -100F and not the -50F.?

My AS colleagues in Florida will kindly refrain from rubing this all in.

We’re in Alaska and we run Rv antifreeze through then blow it out with an air compressor.

l live in WI. I blow the lines out, and then pump antifreeze through sytem. Also make sure and take off all the fixtures like the shower head and kitchen sink head. Anti-freeze down the traps. Anti-freeze in the toilet. And I pour a gallon in the black tank because it lubricates the seals. You will have enough anti-freeze in the grey tank as you run it through the system. If you have interstate batteries keep a trickle charger on all winter if you keep them in the trailer. Many take them out. I don’t. Even if you take them out you still want to keep charger on them. I just keep them on the chargers. They won’t freeze.

About the coldest you will see in northern Wisconsin is -30. Rarely -40. I’ve lived in northern WI for 30 years. You will never see -50. And if you keep AS in a pole barn I wouldn’t even worry. You will be fine.

And by the way Eau Claire really isn’t northern WI. When you get up to Superior you are in Northern Wisconsin

Blow everything with compressed air, leave the low points open, let it sit for a day, close the low points and blow again...including the low points. Purge the water pump, of course.

Be diligent in getting all the moisture out, leave low points open.

No antifreeze needed, you have a faster startup in spring with no flushing, and you'll be good to minus 100 :-)
