Because our unit has the Alde system, our water heater is part of that system. Unlike our previous units, we have no gas water heater (Atwood-style). The valve in my original post appears to do two things: flush water hose if opened before turning on source and indeed would relieve pressure for disconnect. Secondly, when we winterized we did open it and it drained water so it must also be a low point.
