Picking up 2020 Classic RBQ

Picking up our first AS this weekend. Very excited! What would be a good list of items to have the dealer confirm are operational during delivery?

Based on my challenges with a '19, I'd recommend:

1. Alde system for both hot water and heating on both electric and propane
2. All Czone control functions from main digital display and entry way keypad battery disconnect
3. Door fits/closes properly

Congratulations and good luck!

Tell them to go ahead and fix the shower door. It will probably fail on the way home.

Greetings from PA. And congrats on your new AS.

One thing we have benefited from was taking videos as the various systems are explained. We referred to those videos often till we learned how to use all the systems.

Best wishes on your delivery. And post pictures please!

Check the batteries are wired correctly, make sure solar is wired correctly, sub under the couch wired correctly, kitchen sink not falling down and might as well add a bead of caulk around it to keep it water tight, redo all the light switches in the cabinets, replace the light above the door with a bug light, make sure main door closes tight. These are just a few problems with my 2019 30ft classic rbq. But enjoy it. Hope you’re handy with small projects cause if not you’ll be at the dealer a lot.

Welcome Aboard 👍

The 'orientation' should include everything.
Don't be shy...ask questions take video notes, "go over it again please" and camp overnight on the dealers lot, try everything again on your own and do it again after breakfast before leaving.

The sub woofer under the center section of the front sofa can be left unhooked or turned down. We have found this more often than not. Play something on the audio system and listen for Bass sound coming from the sub. Have them take the front cover off the sofa (center section) and put your hand on the top of the sub. Is it producing sound? If not check the connections (they are right there near the sub) and have them pop the cover off the right side of the sub. There are volume and gain controls under the cover. It requires a flat bladed screwdriver to muscle the cover off. You probably wont know what you are looking at, so have their tech do it for you. Leave the cover off so you don't have to deal with it again. You will be adjusting it further when you have time to listen.

By the way, make sure you are getting sound coming out of all four speakers (two in the back bedroom). They can show you how to adjust the speakers (fade, balance and volume) on the sound system. More than likely you are going to find out how much your dealer knows. Not much!

Just do a "Shower door" search on this forum. There are several threads on this subject. The shower door on the Airstreams tend to settle and you can't open or close them without lifting up on the door. I bought a new 2019 Globetrotter and a new 2020 Classic and they both had a shower door problem. Easy fix but it would be better if the dealer would fix it before delivery.

Ask them to have the alde system turned on and cranked up so the heating is tested prior to you getting there. When you walk in, it should be hotter than your outside temp. Will the dealer let you spend the first night in their lot? You can make a list that night of things you find and have them knock it out the next day if possible.

We took delivery of our 2020 30' Classic from Southland RV in Norcross GA Oct 2019. They had it hooked up and a young lady tech went over the AS and operation of all components which took several hours. If this is your first AS I would expect you to be somewhat overwhelmed. As someone suggested there are UTube videos about the trailer you might watch also if they have hookups at the dealer it would be nice to stay a day or so. I spent several days reading the manuals and going over things. There is a learning curve.

Congratulations on your new Airstream.

Make sure the mattress is the correct size and type. Make sure the closet clothes rod is the proper size and doesn't fall down. Check all the windows for ease of opening and closing. Run the water pump. If it has a switch, test it. If it has a door, open it. Take notes and videos.

New AS

Congrats....lot to remember. Sort of like picking up a new car; sales knows about half what they should know.

Anyway, if you can, suggest picking up the manual and reviewing prior to the orientation. This will greatly help you in knowing what questions to ask and clarify areas or systems that are not necessarily explained well in the manual.

Good luck and have fun!

Picked our 2020 Classic up in Feb 2020. Below are issues we ran into after first trip;

- Outside rear storage compartment plastic trim/molding wouldn't stay in place
- Right side of couch back was uneven and wood needed to be supported (brackets added)

- Trim work around the TV cut out above kitchen table was roughly cut (rough edges)
- Medicine cabinet shelves fell down in transit. Support brackets for shelves were installed incorrectly because of tight fit.

- Bed wouldn't extend all the way (this made for some long nights). Make sure you fully extend and retract multiple times to insure proper operation before accepting delivery.
- Kitchen faucet leaked during transit. Bad valve and they replaced
- No manual for microwave. Make sure you have all documentation on appliances.
- Closet Rod fell down in transit( our clothes were in a heap after each day of travel). The reason for this was a very loose wall panel that supported one side of the rod (if you can easily push in the wall closest to the shower you will have the same problem).

- Almost impossible to press TV in into latched position for travel. Make sure you practice this with sales person.

I would suggest you make a thorough video of the interior and exterior while at the dealership and record the sales person confirming date and time on video. This could help if you find something later and need to use as proof it existed prior to leaving the dealership.

Hope this helps.

Great advice above. Spend the night on the lot. If it has a button push it; a knob turn it; a lever flip it. These trailers are well-designed, using good materials (for the most part) but QC is lacking.
In addition to the above have them add water to the fresh water tank and turn on the water pump. It should pressurize the system and shut off. If it sporadically turns on when no valve is opened and the toilet not flushed you have a leak.
Operate the stabilizers. Operate the Zip-Dee Relax awning multiple times-both at the control panel by the door and the C-zone- it is a source of angst. Make sure the refrigerator operates on propane--oven and range too. Ask them for a key ie outline for the breakers and fuses--and if you get one share it with us! If the hot water is not hot enough--and it won't be--have them make the adjustment at the source under the dinette seat. Have them pair your phone to the Polk audio--its not as easy--nor as automatic as you may be accustomed to. And if the dealer is any significant distance from your home, refuse delivery until everything is fixed. You may find appointment are weeks in the future.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback. They are letting me spend the night in it before they deliver it to me.

That night or next morning take a hot shower and see if the hot water last till the end. If it doesn’t now it definitely won’t six months from now.
