PDI / Alde Classic 33

We’re picking up our Classic 33 in a few weeks. I’ve scanned the “Much Ado About Alde” thread, as well as some others.

Are there any recommendations as to “tests” I can perform during the PDI to assess if the Alde is setup and functioning correctly?

I thought about having the dealer turn on Alde as soon as we arrive, then waiting, say for an hour, and testing the water temp of a hot shower after 5-10 mins. Any thoughts? Other ideas?

Also any other PDI recommendations on the Classic 33 are much appreciated.

Cheers,
Mick

Hi

A normal walk through should be a couple hours. That's lots of time to fire up each sub-system. I'd check the A/C units (likely in heat pump mode this time of year) before I'd play with the Alde.

The most basic check is to see what the level of fluid is in the reserve tank. Why? If it's low you want them to top it off at their expense.

How water wise, the dealer (if he's following the rules) will not set things real hot. They don't want to scald somebody in the shower.

A couple of issues we ran into with our 2018 33 Classic:

-Dealer overfilled propane tanks. Took most of the first season before quantity ever changed.
-Shower leaked onto floor. I sealed around LED strip lights on the doors and sealed around door frame and fiberglass shower pan/tub.
- Had a dent on front of refrigerator door which dealer replaced before we accepted.
-We did not check water system as it December and all water had been blown out by JC. Ended up a leak in outside faucet when we added water in the spring. Faucet replaced by JC.
-Numerous issues with Entertainment system but that was the old View Sonic which has been replaced. But I will say the entertainment system is probably the most complicated system on the Unit. Make sure your comfortable with it.
- Alde worked fine. Needed to top off fluid but JC sent extra bottle. Also had to adjust temperature of water but plenty of info here about how to do that.

We are very happy with the 33 Classic and think you will be as well. Expect some issues but all are fixable. You can PM me if you want more. Good Luck.

Hi

The gauges on the propane tanks are set to indicate well when you get close to empty. It is not unusual for them to sit up around max for a while. If the propane tank is to full, it will vent .....

Get them to show you how to adjust the mixing valve. That was our first adjustment, in addition to the anti-scalding setting in the shower. Also if you are not familiar with how the valves are set for winterizing with Alde, get them to show you that as well.

We love the Alde. The cats do too.

Valves diagram is not correct in the 2020 Classic 33 manual. Have dealer get you a drawing that matches your actual setup. Check mixing valve and pump speed.

I would be sure to understand how to dump water out of the hot water tank to keep an appropriate air cushion in the Alde system. When the Alde system is working well - it is fantastic. When it does not it can be very frustrating!

Enjoy your Classic!
