No Power to Alde System

We have a 2018 30í Classic with the dreaded Alde system. Weíve had several issues with it but the latest is we discovered we have no hot water. Looked under the bathroom sink at the Alde board and discovered we have no power to the system. We checked the breaker and it was ok but flipped it off and after a short time back on. Nothing. Cut the power to the power to the trailer including turning the battery off, let it sit a few minutes then turned it back on. Weíre in FL for the winter and of course having a cold spell. Any suggestions?
Why do things happen on weekends!?!

What part of Florida?

Sounds like a loose connection. Have you tried removing the alde panel under the sink and ensure all the connections are secure?

Central FL, between Lake Wales and Avon Park. You can’t even get to the panel under the sink. It’s behind the large drain pipe.

Disconnect the drain if you must. I have an 18 classic with the Alde under the sink as well. Iím in winter garden.

The sink drain just unscrews. May drop out some water, so be prepared to catch it or clean it.

Unfortunately, thatís my only idea if you are certain the breakers arenít tripped and there is power everywhere else. Sounds like itís a loose connection either at the Alde or at the firefly. I would personally start at the Alde. Bringing it into an RV Center I believe they would trouble shoot the same way. Itís just a matter of if you want to attempt it or not.

Sorry I canít be more help, maybe someone else on the forum has another power idea?

Hi

You will need a multimeter to go much further. If you don't have one already, now is the time to pick one up.

How does the Alde Panel come off? There are no screws.

Looks like it just clicks on. Here is a quick YouTube video on installing the upgraded panel. You can see how it clicks on near the end of the video.

Just to finish this thread. Called Airstream this morning and the representative I spoke with, the one who answered the phone, was NOT a good example of what we’ve heard from the experiences of others. He acted bored and bordered on rude. His only suggestion, take it to a dealer. I have to say we weren’t one bit impressed. We have an appointment for Fri at a FL Airstream. Forget all the “help” Airstream gives. I’ll be interested to see if they even respond to my email to the tech dept - the source they tell you to contact.

Have you tried Alde direct? Airstream may be short with you because they know their techs can take care of it quickly and you may be under warranty still?

Either way, sorry to hear about your experience. Wish we could help more here on the forum too.

We haven’t contacted Alde. We talked with our home dealer and with a dealer here in FL. They were both extremely cooperative and are working together for parts etc. We have an appointment Fri and will hopefully have it repaired. Meanwhile it’s going into the high 30s at night. . I wish everyone had dealers as helpful as those we dealt with.

You can still use your heat pump to keep the trailer warm. Itís just the lack of hot water thatís annoying. Do you have a comfort station in your camp ground that youíre staying in or dry camping?

Unfortunately this system doesn’t have a heat pump. Heat runs strictly off the Alde system. We do have an Elec heater we can use to take the chill off the sitting area of the trailer and a big down comforter that will help get us through until Fri. We’re in a park and fortunately have access to the clubhouse shower and neighbors have volunteered theirs.

I should have said, we donít have a heat pump that works worth a darn. Sorry for the confusion.

HAve then look at your heat from your AC units while you are in service. It should work, in fact you should be using the heater to warm up your trailer initially and then the Alde to maintain it. It will come up to temperature faster and burn less propane or use less electric to do it. Counting down the days for you. Friday is right around the corner!

Final update. With tremendous cooperation between Nature & Me Airstream in Traverse City, MI (our home dealer) and Airstream of Tampa we were able to get the Alde repaired Friday. TC had a control board (the brains found under the dinette seat on top of the boiler) drop shipped directly to us. Kim, the parts guy knew immediately what it was. Chris in Tampa got us in and they completed the replacement. We have heat and hot water. We would highly recommend both service departments. Tremendous cooperation.

OK, another update. The new control panel has been installed as you know. NOW WHEN WE TURN THE HEAT ON IT KEEP CLIMBING HIGHER AND HIGHER. First time it was set for 69 and in about 15 min the back we 75 and the front 78. Itís continuing. That #@&$* Alde system has been nothing but trouble. I hasten to add that our extended warranty is refusing to pay for it.
Weíve had constant quality issues with this trailer and chose Airstream because of the reported ďqualityĒ. Weíre inches from selling it. Remember, before you comment, this isnít our first rodeo. Been RVing since the 70s with various models.

Deep breath. Youíll get this. Once itís dialed in, the system is incredible.

Iím not too familiar with that problem. To me, it sounds like the Alde isnít communicating with the controller. Try the power reset again. Set your firefly to an appropriate temp and then reset the power. Check to ensure the Alde panel says the same as the firefly once itís reset.

If Alde heat is turned off at firefly then the two temps will be different. Ensure Alde heat is on at the firefly before ensuring the temps are the same.
