Mojoe, how did you verify the stud didn't bottom out inside the lug nut?

Removed the nut, per the instructions and looked inside with a flashlight for any scaring. The cone shaped seat also had scaring which would indicate it bottomed out against the wheel when I torqued them. I also sent pictures to McGard of the two side by side as you can see from first post on this issue and they were confident these were the correct ones. Beyond that, I don’t know any other way to verify. Also, an older thread on this issue got me started on this part number and another poster on this thread also mentioned the same part number for his trailer.

All that said, I would welcome any information to the contrary as I certainly don’t want to make a mistake, personally, nor be recommending a bad part number. So, I believe each person should do there own research to verify the correct part number for their own piece of mind.

On the older 98 wrangler, they still look good as new. I had replaced those way back in 03.
Good stuff. Made in the USA.
Have a good one.

Just to verify...you installed the 64010 McGard’s on your Airstream, correct? I just don’t want to be giving out (or using!) the wrong part number. Having a little verification would make me feel a lot better.

McGard 64010

Just saw your post, Mojoe. Yeah I used the McGard 64010 on my AS.
2014 model, 28' International with the modular aluminum wheels, the 15 inch ones, with the circular holes
That part number(64010) of the McGard lug nuts fits just fine. I never tried metric.
I have them on the Jeeps, the AS and I even put them on my enclosed motorcycle trailer ( which wifee calls furniture hauler) .
They won't fit on the Mini Countryman nor the D-Ram.

I don't think they bottomed out on the modular type wheels. Next time I am out at the storage unit, I will check one of the lugs. I have to move it anyhow.
Hope this helps, you're good,
Best

The 64010 are 3/4” hex and 1.45” long, so only .05” difference. Both have 60 conical seat.

Allows for 1 more full turn so people that have bottomed out this eliminates that.

Got it. I just rechecked mine yesterday and measured the depth. Seems to be just fine. I intend to pull it for 25 miles or so just to test it then re-torque to be sure.

Check at 25 miles, then 100 miles, which is what the factory suggested after rotating our wheels

No way to know, without looking. Seems you could see the McGuire name and number even if installed.

With just in time supply chains, one can only assume that parts such as these are subject to using alternative suppliers when something upsets the apple cart outside the fence line.

I went with DP. Quality seems very good. (As well as I can tell with a naked eye.)
Had four of the 20 that had split. Pics show splits, and side by side with the DP.

Working on the stupid Airstream lug nuts today and I discovered how cool a battery impact wrench is.
I have a DeWalt 1/2 drive and that is one sweet tool!

Use the correct socket.

Hi, I bought and use two sockets for my tow vehicle and trailer and have never had a problem. Although one shop used an in-correct socket once and slightly tweaked a few covers.

3/4" / 19mm 1/2" drive, deep, thin wall, six point impact socket.

13/16" / 21mm 1/2" drive, deep, thin wall, six point impact socket.

Fat sockets won't fit in the wheel hole correctly and short sockets don't grab enough meat on the lug nut causing the shell to crack and/or slip.
