How in the H$LL are they getting in???

2022 30 Classic RBQ. Now known as….”The Stinkbug Palace”. 🤦🏻*♂️

They’ve been with us about a year now and I can’t figure out how they are getting in. I suspect the AC units as I found 4 in the front filter. Ya can’t squash em cause they do “stink”. My go to solution so far has been the black tank as I don’t want to release them so they can return to “The Palace”.

My Girlfriend can’t tolerate any type of pest control so I can’t spray or bomb.

I’d love to seal up openings but I don’t know where they all of them are???

Anyone dealt with these type of “issues”?

We are in Western NC mountains…apparently a hotbed of these little &$@&&$’s

All ideas short of dynamite are welcome.

My problem was moths, they got in everything! Did you know moths poop on your good linens or seat cushions? Now you do.

Check your vents, especially those with access doors. Mine has small cutouts in the bottom of the door frame to allow rainwater to drain. Closing off those cutouts with a bit of duct tape greatly reduced the number of unwanted guests, and I have yet to see any this spring. It hardly ever rains here, so I'm not too worried about water pooling. Hope this helps.

Can you elaborate on what vents you’re referring to?

Anything on the side of your trailer that opens and closes. Especially the screened vent/ access doors. There's a lip that the access door seats into, mine has a small cutout on the bottom lip to allow rainwater to drain.
The furnace vents and the hot water vents should be screened off if they aren't already.
Be sure all windows contact gasket surface all the way around the perimeter of the window or door. You can check that on windows with a business card.

Look at the ends of your frame rails. The umbilical cable goes into a hole in one of the the frame rails to get to the inside, but the ends may be open. Seal them with foam or screen wire.

Also, the little devils are prolific breeders. You have to get them all out of the trailer or they just make more.

If they’re breeding in our trailer I may have to move straight to the dynamite 🧨 stage.

These things are sooo nasty 🤮. They buzz us like little fighter jets 🤦🏻*♂️🤦🏻*♂️

They are very common in NC. It took us several trips of catching them to get rid of all of them. We still find carcasses in light fixtures and other places.

I would spray this around all the openings (including roof vents, fridge, hot water heater, furnace and AC units) and the underside of the trailer. I use this in my house (including kitchen) for ants and spiders. It has no oder and when it dries it is safe for people and pets. I don’t think you need to spray it inside.

Head for a very cold climate (Iceland should work) and turn off the heat.

There is a bug that could be a stink bug that can make you very sick. So, I don’t know exactly what bug you have, but you should identify it, and verify it is not the kind that can cause a nasty infection. A picture would be a good idea.

Good luck, and they are nasty.

After a few days in NC, I was finding them for weeks.
In the windows, on the furniture, everywhere.

They also can hitchhike on anything you bring in your trailer.

We had a serious problem with these in our coach. They used to get in through the MaxxFan on the roof. They only need a very tiny crack to get in.

I kept a rechargeable dust vac just for cleaning them up. It had a long snorkel attachment and made quick work of sucking them out of tight places. Be sure to keep the end of the snorkel plugged with a tissue or paper towel between uses unless you empty every time - they can crawl back out in spite of the one-way flapper in the vac.

This might help to control them. In my shop I have a problem with crickets and I put out the sticky pads the kind that catch mice. After a week or so the 3 by 5 inch sticky pads are full of dead crickets. Might be worth a try as you can dispose of them in the garbage as opposed to your black tank.

As much as you don't want to spray to kill them, sometimes that is the best solution! Stink bugs hibernate, are drawn to some lights and can be invasive if you don't get rid of ALL of them.

An effective home remedy is 2 cups water, 1 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup dish soap, spray them and where you find them. Double check the air conditioning unit for cracks and loose caulking. Remove all the air conditioner vents (intake and output) and not only give them a good cleaning, but vacuum around inside as well as you can. Empty and clean ALL storage units and cabinets, especially stuff that isn't used often. Even the light fixtures! Don't rinse off the excess where you can't see it, it won't hurt anything but the bugs don't like it.

Then put out Stink Bug traps or an ultrasonic trap and make sure they can't come back. Be sure you get the wire covers for your water heater vent and whatever else you have that has a vent.

Once you find a few, it’s like ants, cockroaches, etc...there are always more…you will find them wintering over inside somewhere and crawling out once temps warm up, falling dead out of items in cabinets and cupboards, etc.

They are a real nuisance, but at least don’t bite.

Crawl under your rig, up near the battery, and see if you have openings where the wires pass through to the inside. I found a bunch in the compartment behind my breaker box. I also found some in the stove exhaust vent when I cleaned that filer. You discussed the AC. So far, none have been able to make it past the fantastic fans. I always find them between the windows and screens. I have also found them in the vents for the shower and bathroom. All the exterior compartments lead to the inside, somewhere. Not sure how you would stop them there. Lastly, when your screen door is shut, check for any gaps around that door and the shell. Good Luck. I think the sink bugs have the advantage.
