Found it and bit the bullet!

Well I am a new Airstream owner, picked it up in Houston on Saturday 3000 mile round trip, a lot on these old bones in 7 days, It is a 2016 Classic twin bed set up. It has the Reese anti sway bars, no problem a little wiggle when over 75mph, but at 68-70 no problem, had a good chance to check out the unit, seems to be a pretty simple set up although some components are hard to get to, It is in the shed where I use to keep my bus, look forward to going down and getting familiar with everything will take a while but will have fun doing it, planning a trip to Alaska with Wilbur McLamb in July be gone a couple months, he also has a 2016 Classic with a 7000 Honda Gen set in the truck looking to do something for power too just have not decided how just yet, Gary

Congrats!

Just a little admonishment however, many here including me will warn you that 75 is simply too fast when towing, even 68. Especially if you have trailer tires such as Goodyear Marathons which are only rated for 65 max speed.

There are a few outliers who will chime in but most folks on here agree that slowing down to 60-65 and enjoying the ride safely is the way to go. When things go bad while towing (blowout, sway from wind or a passing truck, slippery roads, or need to suddenly stop quickly) the 'bad' can multiply based on speed.

Be safe and enjoy getting to know that nice new rig!~

The 16 and 17 Classics have Michelin LT tires, speed rating of over 100.

Congratulations!

I have to agree with PCSKIER, be sure your equipment can handle your travel style, a little wiggle can become A LOT of wiggle real quick, when everything isn't perfect.

I too have a 7000 secured and locked in the bed of my truck, can't recommend it enough, it'll run everything you have and you can rent the extra power out to your neighbor. Mine is overkill, buy I got it to run my house, in the winter during power outages. I also converted it to propane, so as to not be carrying gas around in the enclosed bed all the time. The conversion I used is GenConneX.

Congratulations on the the new AS. Now the fun begins. There are a lot of things to see and enjoy along the way, but it's a little harder to see them if you are flying down the road at 75 mph plus. IMHO you may want to consider a comfortable towing speed of 60 mph. It took me a little to get used to traveling that speed, given that most of the time I am 65-70 when not towing. When things go bad on the road they happen a lot faster at higher speeds. Regarding the generators - I have two GenConneX propane Honda EU2000s. They are very quiet, easy to move, can run off the propane port on my AS or off a portable tank. They power my 2017 28' International Serenity with 2 A/C units and a convection microwave. Enjoy!

PCSKIER gives good advise. 60 is a good speed and get you there safe. Enjoy your new AS and the ride. Love the advise about 2 A/C units (EU2000s) from VaTravelers. I have a Honda EM3800SX but its heavy and thinking about changing to 2 EU2000s.

Fuel economy at 60 mph alone is worth that speed. All who fly by me at higher speeds are patiently at the next stop light on the off ramp. The thrill of speed is quickly lost when the beast behind you takes over

Ditto with all who advise a lower towing speed. In CA where I live the state law when towing is 55. Many other states have the same limit. While I see vehicles exceeding the tow limit all the time, pushing beyond 60 is not wise.

I have not seen any traffic lights on the Interstates I have been traveling lately.
My cruise control is set to 70 on the Interstates when conditions allow. I would be falling asleep running of the road and killing myself for sure going 60.

Haha ya 60 feels like you are driving like a 90 year old woman. 70 works fine for me, but I have a Propride 3P. Best $2k spent on the trailer.

VA traveler, Do you run the 2- 2000's in the truck bed or do you unload them and run on the ground, I was thinking about the same set up I screwed up and put a tonneu cover on mine but can raise it up when gens are running how much do the units weigh and is it too close to run in the bed of the truck while hooked to the trailer, how much gas does it use full load and you say you run 2 units at one time?

I have an older rig, but wonder if by the plural "....anti sway bars..." you mean the WD bars aka "spring" bars. My Reese rigging has the two spring bars plus a sliding adjustable friction sway bar on one side. The spring bars may help but as I understand it, won't do much to prevent sway.

Speed

Congrats on your purchase! I drive 60-65 on two lane highways and maybe slower on other backroads. On interstates, driving much less than 70 makes me uneasy as the semis will run over you! On trip out west, some of the states had 80 or 75 mph limits so drove a bit faster. Some of these interstates are pretty rough though. Of course I had a brand new set of Michelins on 16" rims so not concerned about GYM issues.

Enjoy your adventure!
