I searched for an answer to this question because I have read it somewhere, BUT how do clean under the grate where food collects and goes to die? I think I read that if you took the screws out the tray would fall. Any ideas?

Only thing you can do is uninstall it.
I reached out to dometic directly and they confirmed this. The new models have a cover to prevent things from falling in. You would think they would sell some sort of retrofit for ours?
