Dish Tailgator with 33 Classic

We used the Dish Tailgator with our 2014 Flying Cloud. We take delivery of our 2018 Classic 33 next month. Has anyone used the Dish Tailgator with the projection TV system in the Classic?

We have a Classic 33 and have been looking into a dish system (DirecTv or Dish Network). If you don't mind, I'd like to pick your brain. I know the issue raised concerning the TV Tuner is being addressed by Airstream now.

Inbox me if you like.

Thanks!

Not that it has anything to do with the 33 Projection TV, but keep in mind the Tailgater Antenna for DirecTV does not pick up HD channels but the Dish Tailgater does. To get the HD channels for DirecTV you have to have the portable full size satellite dish type antenna...pain in the #%&* to store...ask me how I know. Plus, aiming it at the proper satellite(s) is an art form in itself. I called both Winegard and King and asked if they had plans to update the DirecTV Tailgater antennas to include HD reception. They both replied that there were no plans for the foreseeable future. So we made the switch from DirecTV to Dish for the simplicity of setup with the Tailgater.

Dish and 33

We picked up our 33 footer in September. The owners manual makes it sound simple to use satelite feed provided. Not so much.

I found the satelite cable that connects to the outside of the trailer taped to the CATV feed between the shower and living room wall. From inside the overhead compartment, remove the triangle panel that has the antenna amplifier mounted on it and you should find the end of the satelite cable. Extend this cable to your satelite receiver then make sure that when you hook up the dish outside that you hook the cable to the connection marked satelite, NOT CATV.

The last step is to connect the satelite receiver to the projector with the HDMI cable. There are several choices.

Just to clarifiy, the CATV feed works for bedroom TV but not for the projection TV. The HomeWorx tuner that gets you the TV signal from the antenna doesn't know what to do with the CATV signal.

I don't think you can record or pause with a dish receiver that is not in your house without paying for a second receiver and paying the full prices. With DirecTV you can pay just $7.00 per month per receiver and have as many receivers you want including in your RV that will record and pause. With a winegard (http://www.winegard.com/carrout) antenna automatic picks up your satellite but will not give you HD set on DirecTV. It will give you HD if you have it set on Dish and pay for a receiver like you have at home or I think you can take the one in your home and use it while on the road. The winegard sets outside your RV and can be moved around so building, trees, etc. does not block your signal and also can be used with Dish or DirecTV. If your antenna is on your RV and you are under trees you may not be able to receive satellite signal. Also you will want to use the larger hand held remote controller with your DirecTV service. That's my 2 cent worth and it works for me.

I can record with my Dish Wally receiver. Both Dish and DirecTV require an internet connection to record. The Winegard carryouts are service specific. You either get the one for Dish or the one for DirecTV. One will not work with both networks because Dish will recieve HD channels and the DirecTV one will only receive SD channels. I just went through all this about a month ago and got a real education. The Wally receiver and single port Winegard come as a package for $349 then the service is pay as you go for $9.00 per month assuming you have Dish at home. I’m getting 250 channels and HBO/Cinemax for $115.00/month.

Well I don't understand the answer because my friend that I camp with every month is able to record in his camper by using the winegard that sets outside his camper and it will work on both DirecTV and Dish.

I have a 2016 DISH Tailgater, Wally receiver and the optional hard drive and I can pause and record TV shows. Connecting everything was super simple because I ditched the DVD player. The Wally connects in it's place and feeds both TV's. Also, the SatTV cable was conveniently located inside the DVD cabinet. So all I had to do was connect the SatTV cable (input) and the existing HDMI cable (output) to the Wally. Inside the cabinet you'll also see the powered HDMI splitter that allows both TV's to get the Wally feed.

If you occasionally use the DVD player, then connect it directly to one of the TV inputs.

Just depends on which antenna you have. The “Playmaker” antennas are service specific. If you want the full size dish like you have at home then they sell one that will get both. Also, the “Carryout G2” will receive both but is a bit larger than the “Playmaker” and both of those only receive DirecTV SD channels, not HD. I like HD programming and I hated having the big satellite dish to store and setup. Plus I have no need to have both services...$$$.
