I have used both the 3M product and XPEL. XPEL seems to be a superior product to the 3M product. However, in fairness I have not used the 3M in the last ten years. After 7 years with the 3M it did not yellow but rather developed spider web cracks making it difficult to remove. The XPEL seems to be superior and has 10 year warranty and my installer who has been doing this for the past 15 plus years switched years ago from 3M to XPEL product. SFSG just in case anyone else is considering. BTW the film does stop the chips and I am very sure your not going to get the corrosion underneath on stainless steel. For that matter I don’t believe I will get it on my truck either but that’s just me. Best of luck.
