The Audio Visual Supplier will be coming to Texas in a couple of weeks to see my unit and to fully understand the issues associated with the Classic 33 Projector TV. I am on a 3 week trip that will cover 5 camp grounds. I am gathering data for them. I will keep this blog updated.

If you have a Classic 33 please call Airstream Customer Service 877–596–6111 x 7401, ask to speak to Jeremy Allen. They need to hear from you.

We purchased a 33 Classic a couple of weeks ago. As you suggested I contacted Jeremy Allen about this issue.

On a related note, I was talking to a gentleman at the RV resort where we are in Florida. He said he installed an LG 1500 portable projector in his non Airstream unit. If I understand correctly, the tuner is built into the projector unit. He says it functions wonderfully like a smart TV. It works on cable, the internet and over the air. I admit I am very electronically challenged, but I just wanted to share this information in case it was any help to the ones working on this, which we very much appreciate. Aside from this issue, we are thoroughly enjoying the 33 Classic.

Thanks for all of the information on this issue... I will be picking up my 2018 33’ Classic next week and hope to have some resolution. We do have iPads, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix. Does the projector have an HDMI input? I’m assuming that we need to plug the Apple TV into an HDMI input on the projector to stream from our iPads?

There is an hdmi port in the front of the projector that you can use, it’s the easiest to access. I messed with Apple TV, and can use it, however I decided to just use an Amazon Firestick with the app called AirPin (AirPlay/DLNA Receiver Pro) to mirror Apple devices on IOS11 to the screen since it fits directly inside and connects via micro usb without having to wrap wires around the outside of the unit and configuring a split for an additional outlet since they are all being used.

Keep in mind there is a little screw you have to take off to open the small plastic cover. I almost broke it but actually decided to just leave it off anyways for easy access to the hdmi port. I had to loosen the projector screws to lower it slightly to be able to access the small screw keeping the cover fastened.

I, too, have been studying the possibility of using the Apple TV to stream from iPad or laptop...My experience has been that it is necessary to use your cellphone as a hot spot (thus creating data charges) and that most campground networks are not strong or reliable enough to support the stream box (Apple TV or Roku, etc.). Remember the campground networks are trying to support usually 50-400 users. Ask the question, are you using or need the DVD/BR player, if not, replace the DVD HDMI with the stream box HDMI.

Hi

There are a number of ways to set up a dedicated WiFi in your trailer to do all sorts of stuff. Since it's dedicated, it can have all sorts of speed *within* the trailer. Streaming things that are already on your computer will work very well.

Streaming shows *in* from the outside world is a problem. Campground systems generally aren't up to the task. Cell phone systems in remote areas also generally aren't up to it either. If you are close enough to civilization, your phone may do pretty well.

Simple answer - if you *must* have movies (or the kids just will not go to sleep ....) bring along a couple of Blu-ray disks or download stuff to the computer.

Thanks Bob! We do download movies to iPads for streaming. We also have a Wifi Ranger and WeBoost 4g-x RV. My biggest concern is the setup for “internal” streaming from the iPad to the projector via Apple TV or other solutions.

This might help with your Apple TV set up:

Thanks MoJoe!

Very much looking forward to trying this out! I was hoping to pick up today, but we got hit with snow over the last three days and I don’t want to bring it home on roads that are covered with salt/chemicals...

Maybe next weekend can be an inaugural run!

I tried to copy movies to my I-pad. But I was never happy with the resolution you ended up with because of the transfer. To get a movie down to about 6 gig in MP4, it loses a lot of picture quality. I'd rather just carry a handful of DVD's.

Hey smmckean, ....

Haven't seen any recent updates.

Has AS given you any feedback as to a solution?

We have had a successful test using another projector which has the Smart TV tuner which does work similar to the Samsung TV in the BR for both OTA (antenna) and Cable reception. AS AV person was with me in my unit as we tested and recorded the necessary data which has been shared back at the factory and the decision makers as they are planning for the 2019s as well as developing a plan to fix the 2018s. I am told that the wheels of progress move slow similar to construction of the Great Pyramids. I am trying to keep grease under the stones as they are inched forward.

I just bought the 2018 Classic 33. When we close on 5/17, if this problem is true, then I will kill the deal.

I had a conversation with AS,...(the guy in an earlier post in this thread). It was a very reasonable conversation and there is an issues still. They’re looking at options but it’s still ongoing. As with most things in life the devil is in the details. Can they find a projector it’s in the existing cabinet if they can’t they do it a existing cabinets. What are they do with all the existing do they issue a recall etc. etc. etc.
I wish there was an easy button.

Just glad I found out about this issue before I took delivery. Now I can pull out of the deal.

As I have previously stated, I have identified an issue that Airstream had not experienced previously or that was unaware. I have worked with them to correct this with the best possible outcome for all of us Classic 33 owners. We have identified a replacement projector and conducted successful tests with their AV person, Airstream has reviewed the data (I have been to 6 different campgrounds and several different sites within those campgrounds - and I have provided data from each) and they appear to be developing a plan to correct this, processes take time to ensure their dealers are able to understand and address the replacement satisfactorily per Airstream requirements. In the mean time, I am watching my satellite TV. (Directv with portable satellite dish)

Thank you! I look forward to the results... I’m wondering if the new projector has more than one HDMI input, and preferable one on the front of the projector? It would make it so simple to plug in an additional source (i.e. Apple TV) to enhance my viewing pleasure!
