2017 Classic 30 Smell

We bought a used Classic and it has an odd smell throughout the trailer.

We tried airing it out for two months and it still stinks. We tried boiling vinegar with the a/c running and the smell came back.

Does anyone else have a stinking 2017 Classic?

Did it smell that way when you picked it up? What does it smell like? A used 2017 - it must only be months old - is this why the original owners gave up on it? You may want to try to get more info from the dealer and/or previous owner though at this point, it's probably your issue to resolve sorry to say.

You'll need to get to root cause - if it's musty, it might be a leak that soaked bedding, carpet, etc. you'll need to address the results (furniture) and the cause (leak).

There's a machine called an ozone generator that is supposed to be very good at ridding areas of smell (e.g., smoke, mustiness, etc.) but using it without addressing the problems and root causes will be a very temporary solution at best.

Good luck.

It has a chemical smell. I think was used as a drug lab!

Call your local fire dept and ask them if they can check it for you. If I understand correctly, the chemical residues left behind could be extremely hazardous... please do get back with results/findings... And good luck!

Were you able to transfer the warranty?

If you were have the dealer check it out.

Maybe have it checked out there anyways?

Is it off-gassing of interior materials?

Yes we transferred the warranty. I think this trailer may have been a meth lab or some kind of illegal operation?

In our new 2017, it had an odd smell, sort of chemical. I was told it could be the ultra leather seats. They suggested we take all the cushions out and let them air out in garage or house for a week or so. This actually worked with the smell we had. I have. A sensitive nose.....

Riff - it you are serious about that and not just joking around then you really do have a very serious health hazard. The residue left behind is extremely toxic as I am sure you know. It would never be safe for you to use unless you completely gutted the whole thing. Not kidding. I truly hope you are teasing.

Hi Riff, this may be "off gassing" from some of the materials used in the trailer. It's not unusual for this to last for several months if the trailer has been stored with the windows buttoned up when new. The ozone generator is a great suggestion. I've used these units to clear smells from rental properties where you wouldn't believe what went on...

There is also a product called Ozium that you can spray in the fridge as well, and it really works well. Good luck with finding the source!

We just bought one and doesn't smell at all. It sounds to me like maybe a fed mouse or rat. They smell horrible. An ozone machine would help with taking the odors out. Good luck.

I own a 2017 International and just purchased it a few weeks ago. I pulled off the plastic that covered the mattress and there was a very strong chemical smell. The smell went away in a short period of time. You might want to remove the mattress and see if the smell goes away. Kick on your ceiling fans to evaluate the smell after you remove the mattress.

Worth a try.

If this is true then you can never camp in it, cannot tow it anywhere, and cannot sell it. It is worth nothing, if fact will probably cast you thousands to properly and safely dispose it as it's now a known hazardous waste site. Not sure insurance will cover this Start by calling the EPA to get a hazmat team out. Every day you do nothing opens you up to a lawsuit for knowingly storing toxic waste. Is it stored near a school?

What SteveSueMac said.

I think it is highly unlikely this brand new Airstream was used as a meth lab...seriously.

It's probably just a "new trailer smell". I have a 'new Serenity and it has new trailer smells. Not objectionable at all. It will eventually reflect the scents of our pugs and our cuisine.

Post #1 says they bought this trailer used. Not so far fetched IMO that it might have been used as a mobile lab for illicit activities.

It's a 2017, still basically brand new in my opinion, but we don't need to argue about it.
