2017 AS Classic 30 and ProPride P3 Install

Hello we just brought a 2017 Airstream Classic 30 and are going to install a ProPride P3 hitch. During the install what are the tricks and fixes to any problems that you encountered?

Two items, at least on my 2015 Classic.

1. You will need to drop the propane line on the curbside if it is attached to the bottom of the frame rail on the the tongue. Need clearance of the u-bolt that attaches the vertical jack on that side.

2. The bolts on the the inside of the frame jacks that were in my kit were to long and wouldn't fit between the tongue rail and the battery box. Easy to get shorter ones at HD or Lowes.

Optional, there are rub bars on the vertical jacks to allow the vertical bars that attach the spring bars to rub against. I cut off the from bent sections so that the propane tank cover didn't set on top of them.

Another trick for initial setup for the stinger. When attached to your tow vehicle on level ground put the stinger initially at about 15" from ground to the top of the stinger tip. That should put you pretty close to where you want to be with a classic.

Follow the directions included and it is really pretty easy to do. Pay attention to how the instructions describe building the stinger, sliding the head onto the stinger and then backing under the trailer tongue ball attach, lowering the trailer onto the ball on the head and doing some of the final setups. Eliminates the need for a floor jack or a lot of manual lifting.

I searched the website for ProPride installs, but I'm looking for anything that is particular to a 2017 Airstream Classic or information from anyone who has installed on a 2017 Classic.

Then use the recommended thread as you may be first. Besides, trailers just don't change much.

The re activation of the thread will send notices to its great number of subscribers. Some or many of whom will arrive to be of help. Between them and Sean it won't get any better.

I just installed a ProPride 3P to tow my new 2017 Classic. Or I should say I shipped it to the dealer for them to install. Apparently they didn't read the instructions. Left out the shim plates for the WD Jacks as well as the adjusting bolts. Thank goodness for Sean at ProPride. He very patiently walked me through all the necessary adjustments to make the hitch work great. He even sent extra parts at no charge that the dealer left out! Can't say enough good things about Sean. One hint, the adjusting bolts that come with the kit are too long to fit in the jack mount. The jacks are too close to the battery box. A quick trip to Lowe's to purchase 2 3/4" long bolts solved the problem. 2 1/2" would work as well.
Once it's all installed and adjusted properly you are going to love towing with your ProPride!

Where did you have your hitch installed? Picking up my 25 FC at Orlando RV and have shipped my hitch there. Don't want the same problems. Thanks..

Not a Classic but might be useful tip anyways.

Have Sean from ProPride send you a set of shims for the jacks to help fit them better on the typical narrower Airstream frame. Prevents the jacks from tipping when tightening the weight distribution bars.

Like MoJoe7009, I had U-Bolt clearance problems on the right side (curb side) jack, as one u-bolt leg was too close to the battery box to easily access for tightening the nut. I drilled another set of mounting holes in the jack at the other corners so that the jacks are now mirror images of each other when mounted. Note, this may have been an anomaly or you may find just the opposite, that the left side has clearance problems.

You can build it but you can't make them come.

I hate to tell you but...Orlando RV. Extremely disappointed in our delivery. So many items wrong I am having to bring it back next week to be serviced and essentially take delivery again. My recommendation is to go over everything with a fine tooth comb and don't leave until everything is to your satisfaction. Ethan in the delivery department did go out of his way to try to make things right but it was overwhelming for him. Honestly, thanks to the forums we knew more than they did. They had never heard of the Alde mixing valve fix. I gave them the service bulletins that I printed from this forum...they looked at me like I had 3 heads! I had previously asked if it had been installed. They assured me it had. I popped off the panel under the dinette to check and sure enough, no mixing valve. Make sure the check that before you take delivery.

I ultimately fixed the Hitch myself with the help and guidance of Sean at ProPride. Hope you have better luck!

Yikes!!!!! I was a little afraid of that. I live in Texas so going back to "redeliver" is not a happy option. My mom lives in Palm City so was going to camp 2 nights near Orlando RV (any suggestions? ) and take it back to them to fix, if needed, while I visited for a few days with my mom.

I don't know of the Alde mixing valve fix- where can I find info on it? Do I need to watch them install the hitch and read the directions to them? I will not be happy if it is not right. Any other things that stand out to watch out for? Thank you so, so much. Always good to know what you should be prepared for. And I will just keep breathing.

Hope your AS gets all fixed up and you have many happy years of camping experiences in it.

Don't be too alarmed. It's the rare RV dealer on top of everything. Having info in hand makes things easier for everyone. I've had to do this with everyone from the Highway Patrol to CPAs to vehicle dealerships, among even more.

Take notes as you read. Vehicle enthusiast forums are a great resource.

And check with other Florida owners. I think N2916S mentioned being pleased with JD Sanders in Gainesville. Search posts or PM. Same for Moosetags.
