2016 Classic Queen to Twin Conversion

2016 Classic 30 Queen to Twins

Conversion took about a week to do. I used base for Queen to build bases for Twins. Only bought 2 sheets of 1/2" plywood. The best accompolishment was taking the two end tables and putting them togather to form the table between the beds. All drawers and doors are functional and one bed has 2 drawers and the other has one. Each bed is able to tilt for extra storage.Click image for larger version

Very nice. I was going to do that conversion, but sold the trailer and bought a twin 2017. Even went so far as to get a quite from JC on the conversion - $7,000.00.

Great work.

We like our twin, especially for that long dressing room between the beds that used to be split in half and outboard under the curve. You went from a long trailer to long, long. How was the floor under the queen?

Did the queen have 2 mattresses?
I wonder how expensive it would be to add outside storage like the factory twins have.

Hi

You would not *think* that there would be room for two Newfoundlands and a Lab between the twin beds in a Classic. You would be wrong in that estimate. I have plenty of data on this. It's amazing what a relatively small hallway can accommodate.

2016 Classic Queen to Twin Conversion

But, those pups are more likely to sleep on the bed....or the nearest lap...

Titus only weighs 120 pounds, and He's a lapdog (or so he thinks). My daughter only weighs about 110...

Hi

Ours would like to be lap dogs. The gotcha is that all three want to be on the same lap at the same time.

1/2" plywood question

JYD,

I know this question is a few years late, but....

I am right in the middle of building my twin beds in my 27FB IS.

I was able to use most of the parts from the queen as well.

Did you have any issue with the 1/2" plywood being springy?

I was going to use 3/4" baltic birch plywood, but it is fairly heavy.

Also, I would love to see any pictures of how you framed yours up under the beds.

I hope this finds you well.

Hi gblackburn,

I did my conversion from queen RB to twin beds back in 2017 (see above post). Below are some pictures of one of the twin bed framing. I used 3/4" by 2 1/2" popular boards from Home Depot. The popular is strong and rigid, but light weight. I glued and screwed each joint. I reused the queen bed top plywood, drawer box, front laminated plywood and dropped several supports from the frame to the floor. For the most part, I did not use the aluminum walls for support. Let me know if you have questions.

Dave,

Thanks for the info and pictures. You gave me a great idea by using Poplar cross supports. I have a 27FB so I dont have an Access door except in the front. I am using 3/4" Baltic birch, which is very stiff, for the East/West supports for the bedframe. They do not have any supports in the middle under bed. Think of an upside-down U (|____|) I want to be able to put folding chairs underneath without verticle support. I was worried about it being springy but the cross members, but I think what you did will fix my concerns and I can use 1/2" plywood to lower the weight.

Thanks Again!!!
Gil
